‘Siblings Grieve 2: the learning times’

is a zine collection of personal insights on how we sustain ourselves after a sibling’s death.  To include:

  • a sharing of personal experiences of grieving siblings - life after ‘your friend from birth’ dies
  • a discovering of tools to help while living with loss - resources that support healing

Submissions accepted until August 29th 2015:

- personal essay, creative non fiction (up to 700 words) or poetry (up to 350 words)

- art work - hand drawn, collage or photography - zine will be in black and white.

Share insights and resources that help you live in the experience:

• Was group support helpful or did you go at your grief solo?

• What object, action or strategy was beneficial to feel not so alone?

• How did your grief look - at the beginning, middle and … now?

• What image or quote supported your self through the ‘early days’?

Contributors whose submission is printed receive a free copy of the zine.

’Siblings Grieve 2; the learning times’ zine will be a resource for local hospices.

Please send along with your submission:

• name; mailing address and short bio

• social media contact you wish to have published

• A photo or drawing of you and your sibling

Interested? Questions? Email earlad@gmail.com

Thank you for considering that Siblings Grieve 2!

… there is no greater writing than having someone write about past lives, stories, laughter, sadness -  and in words -  forever solidifying and marking the passage of someone's presence on earth.  They were here - they were loved and still are - they loved - and they mattered - and they still matter, always. - M. Dales

Hey folx!

We are Pan-African Mosaic Collection, and we are new to zine scene. Our independent, not-for-profit zine is meant to provide a safe space, if not safer space, for self-identified African gender, sexual, and romantic minorities (GSRM) of all backgrounds and experiences.

The theme of our first zine will be on RELATIONSHIPS:

  • self-image (relationships with yourself; how you feel about yourself)
  • familial (relationships with your family)
  • friendships
  • platonic/sexual/romantic/etc relationships
  • and more!

ART GALLERY: submissions can consist of photos, drawings, writing, labels, collages, and anything else you can think of! When you’re ready, email us a scanned or digital copy of your work.

Lastly, please send any submissions, questions, topic/artwork suggestions, and comments to panafricanmosaic (at) gmail (dot) com. The DEADLINE for submissions of the first zine is AUGUST 26TH, 2015. We plan to release the first issue on September 15th, 2015. If you are unable to submit, feel free to tell your friends and community about us.

Note that we would prefer the submissions be in PDF, DOC or DOCX, JPG or JPEG, and/or PNG FORMAT. If you have a question about the format of your submission (or any other aspect of it), don’t be afraid to email us! Thanks in advance for all your hard work and support!

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: "If you'd like to hear it // I can sing it for you" is a zine on aging. We are now accepting submissions for issue #002. We are accepting writings, photos, artwork centered around the theme “The things we’ve created.” All submissions should be formatted for b&w printing.

Please include: contact information you would like included in the zine, websites where interested readers can see more of your work, and an “about me” page with some fun info about you~

Our theme for this issue centers around social fabrications: the things we’ve created to help us hide from the things we haven’t - ie: colorblind notions of frailty, long-term care facilities, modern burial practices, Medicare coverage, culturally-specific understandings of an aging-body, etc. We are particularly interested in experiences of aging *outside* of fabricated normative structures- including senior homelessness, sexuality in older age, poverty, and addiction in older age.

Deadline is JULY 25, 2015. Can’t wait to see and include your work.

Call for Submissions!!

Looking for submissions for a self-care/positivity zine about the little things that make blue days better. This can be things you do, things you wear, sensations, sounds, songs, etc, - anything that makes you feel safer, warmer, stronger, and a little bit better.

I’m looking mostly for things that are short and sweet – art, poems, photos, etc – but feel free to submit short stories or essays if yr feeling loquacious. The final pages will be printed 4x4 in., b&w, so please make sure yr submissions are square (or let me know it’s okay to reformat).

All contributors will receive a free copy of the zine, which has a tentative release date of June 5. Please send submissions to annnamaize@gmail.com by May 25. Let me know if you have any questions!
