am putting out a call for submissions for issue 4 of razor sharp haze daze. was originally going to be a perzine but now it will be a compilation issue. it will also be subtitled "the sock issue". everything and anything pertaining to socks: love them or loathe them. contributors can send in stories, poems, drawings, comics, etc. this is a chance to let your creative juices flow. i'm a lover of polka dotted and stipped socks so that's where the idea for this issue came from. submissions can be sent via smail mail, message box or email and all contributors will recieve a free issue of the zine in their mailbox. deadline for submissions is November 30th but if you need an extension, i will accomodate you. thank you all in advance!

DJ Frederick is issuing a call for submissions for the 2011 issue of Signals: A Radio Zine. Looking for personal essays that involve radio related topics, interviews, and articles about any and all aspects of shortwave broadcasting, free / pirate radio stations, community radio, low power radio and the “underground” era of FM radio. Artwork, fiction, poetry and any unusual topics are appreciated as well.

issue #4 of the radical feminist compilation zine hoax is underway and we need yer submissions! the topic is feminism & hirstories and our formal submission date is september 30th, 2010.

here are some examples of what we are looking for: the “click” moment when you realized you do or don’t identify as a feminist; growing up with/without feminism in yer life; stories from childhood, inspirational people (in yer families, culture, literature, etc.); introduction to women/trans/people of color’s work & theories in high school/college/etc.; relationship to past feminist movements (first wave, second wave, third wave, riot grrrl, etc.); in-depth essays about feminists of the past; history of witches, the clitoris, scientific/religious/philosophical views of female sexuality; past feminist movements that might not be well known (in africa, south america, etc); looking back to compare the state of women now to the state of women in the past; what you foresee in the years to come; what your ideals are for the years to come; HIV/AIDS and the queer movement; the importance of preservation for queer/POC/trans/disabled groups; social constructions of sexuality, race, gender, etc.; what it means for you to be a survivor of sexual assault (even a story about yer assault); the history of yer hair (POC & having “natural” or chemically straightened hair / the decision to stop shaving body hair in relation to feminist politics); having an “alternative” family (gay parents, adopted, cared for by grandparents, living in foster care, etc.)

also, we really need artwork! individual drawings, paintings, collages, or comic excerpts are all desirable! if you need more time to come up with something, or will be unavailable to mail us something before then, e-mail us and we can work something out! hoaxzine (at) gmail (dot) com!
Comment by VAMPIRE SUSHI DISTRO on September 3, 2010 at 5:58am
i had an idea at work the other day that me and carl should make a little horror themed art zine for halloween etc & to celebrate vampire sushi's 1ST BIRTHDAY. and then i thought "why keep the fun all to ourselves, WE SHOULD MAKE IT A COMPILATION ZINE!"

so yes, we are looking for submissions! drawings, photographs, collages, embroidery, anything! also considering horror stories and reviews of horror films! the zine will be quarter size / a6 but your piece doesn't have to be that size necessarily, we're perfectly able to resize things on the photocopier..

the main theme is vampires (of course) but other monsters & horror creatures / themes are welcome too. anything related to twilight is not welcome, unless its taking the piss out of sparkly 'vampires'.

we'd especially love zinesters we distro to take part in this compilation.

i just recieved this from a friend in Turkey ---

even my mum can make a book

fanzines, zines, independent publications and artist books are acting as a response to the mainstream media with an activist manner. as they are a way of understanding our relation with society and even with ourselves, maybe slower but more attractive for sure.
however in times of limitless possibility to spread information virtually through the network; communication with printed material is decreasing. the proportion of people who make zines and people who write blogs or collect images of everything is a good example for this. but actually arranging collages, drawings, texts, photos etc. on paper, as a medium itself, has so many possibilities that adds more value to our thoughts.

the aim of the project is to bring together independent publications and to encourage people to distribute their ideas, thoughts via printed or handmade materials. it is about to share obsessions, passions and things in your mind on paper that can be shuffled and touched. it is an open call for everyone to enhance these form of expression!
all these publications are going to be collected in form of an archive that is continuously extended and meant to be traveling through different venues in turkey and abroad.

first exhibition will take place in 15th september 2010 in manzara perspectives in istanbul.

so everybody, we are waiting for you to make your own editions, or send the ones you already did. you are completely free about topics and format, you can even ask to your mother to collaborate with you.

we want people to go home and lie on the floor and make zine!

send your editions until 31 of august to manzara perspectives
tatar beyi sokak 27 kuledibi beyoğlu

please include, a short biography, full contact details, date of birth and nationality.
