We seek out stories that ponder the everyday,

social commentary on banal habits,

drawings of dustballs.

Those blank spaces in your day (filling out a form, watching your newsfeed pass by) punctuated by pointless musings, are the stuff of art. We revel in the detritus of mass production, the bombardment of electronic social media, hollywood gossip and advertising, and seek to elevate these happenings.

possible ideas:

the difficulty you face in constructing witty Facebook status updates and how it makes you feel inadequate

creatures drawn from objects you see on your desk

text message poetry

parodic celebrity rumours

absurd how-to guides

We are accepting submissions of

art

comics

fiction

nonfiction

other hybrid texts

anywhere between 2 and 2500 words.

Please email submissions to theprizetitbit@gmail.com before Sunday 18th September.

The Prize Titbit will be presented in a newspaper layout and dispensed freely at odd locations in the city. Your drawing/writing can be gross, serious, hyper-real, sarcastic, messy, fun, powerful or lonely.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS! Paper Monster Press "Queer Punk Issue" (The Year-ender, Ear-banger Issue!)

You draw lines, shape boxes, and try to decide which ones fit you best. But have you ever stepped outside the line and think, how much further would you dare to go? People who are openly queer call this coming out of the closet. We close ourselves, cage our hearts, and throw away the key. For this issue, we are daring you to come out with us.

Once again, trust us with your submissions. We ask you to go over the boundaries of gender, race, norms, and clichés.

We want your roars for human dignity. Colors of explosions and madness, and words that ignite our passion for equality.

Give us your poetry, your essays, your stories, your art, and your music in their most rebellious forms. Color our worlds queer in the way punk personified anarchy.

Cross borderlines on tightropes. Shrug off oppression. Do away with social conventions. Put stereotypes aside forever, never again to be worn by anyone.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

  1. All works must be submitted to papermonsterpress@yahoo.com.
  2. Each contributor may submit 3 works ONLY from each category. That means you may submit 3 literary works, 3 artworks, and 3 musical pieces, but no more than that.
  3. The EIC’s laptop is Buddhist, so aside from attaching text submissions, kindly paste the contents of your piece(s) to the body of your e-mail.
  4. Submit literary pieces in English or Filipino. We do not have the capacity to read and/or translate foreign languages as well as local dialects at the moment. Works should not exceed 500 words.
  5. Submit artworks in JPEG format. We accept both colored and black or white art, but please be reminded that PMP will only have a colored cover, the rest of the zine will be in black and white.
  6. Submit sounds in MP3 format. Add a short description of each track in two to three sentences.
  7. If your piece is inspired by an artist/work, please indicate the artist/work from which your piece sprang from.
  8. PMP religiously follows the process of selecting and editing. We stand by our editors’ decisions.
  9. For updates, just check the Paper Monster Press Facebook page (www.facebook.com/papermonsterpress)

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: September 30, 2011

Now, there are no standards, no boundaries. We’ll make our love on wastelands and through the barricades.

Call for submissions: Absent Cause #5 – Dangerous Gifts

Absent Cause zine was established in 2008 as a venue for people from myriad cultures and selves, pushed to the outskirts and into the underground, to find each other, draw connections between their experiences, and gain strength for their struggles.

The term “Dangerous Gifts” is usually associated with the special contributions of people with mental illness / variance. But there are many kinds of dangerous gifts we experience and share: the person who chooses to wear a veil as an expression of culture or religion; gender or gender-less expression outside the male-female binary; being a fat person, a hairy grrrl, or having other physical characteristics outside mainstream acceptance; existing as a survivor in a social system that celebrates abuse and war; the choice to confront capitalism, racism, patriarchy and heteronormativity in a culture of submission; and so much more.

Absent Cause is seeking submissions on your experience of “Dangerous Gifts” for the forthcoming issue. Artwork, comix, photography, essays, poems, and SHORT fiction are welcome.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 30, 2011.

Explore the dark side with Absent Cause:

Underground cultures and hidden histories; feminist, gender-variant and queer sexualities, chosen families and radical politics; vampirism, the gothic, horror and the macabre; surviving abuse, coping with mental illness/dangerous gifts, self-harm and suicide.
