This is a soft announcement to see if there is interest in a comp zine dealing with putting a face to mental illness & breaking apart stereotypes. Basically I want a picture of you and you to state : my name is ___ and i have ___. then tell me something that goes against the mental health label/norm. i am looking for positive stories - short + sweet + to the point. If you are interested contact me - facebook or my email missmuffcake[a]aol.com

Hi all!

I make a bi-monthly queer photography, culture and travel zine called Elska. Each issue is shot in a different city with local guys and their stories. We also include for each issue one or two photographic submissions from other photographers with shoots beyond the main city of the issue.

What we're looking for are pictures of men - clothed or nude - and they don't have to be models. In fact we'd prefer if they were "regular" guys. The pics should also convey a sense of place, i.e. if you shot them in New York, then the pics should look New Yorky in some way (though that doesn't mean I need to see the Statue of Liberty in the background!).

We'd also prefer the pics to be accompanied by a text of 150 or 300 words (in any language). The text should be written in first person and talk about you, the model, or the place. It can be a journal entry, anecdote, story etc.

If you'd like to submit some pics, send some low-res images and text to submissions@elskamagazine.com

P.S. Check us out at www.elskamagazine.com

Creative Anxiety – A Zine

Anxiety and Creativity – best of friends, worst of enemies.

I am a writer. I suffer from anxiety.

At times, it feels as though these two things go hand in hand. I feel anxious, I can’t sleep, I need to get creative. Writing and producing art work are among the only things that can calm me down.

At other times, my anxiety causes me to have severe doubts about my creativity, writing and artistic talent, meaning that I find it hard to work.

Creative Anxiety is an Ezine with an aim to share work either about anxiety, creations inspired by anxiety, or even work that you would like to share in spite of your anxiety!

Do you suffer from anxiety? Are you a writer, poet, artist, musician, film maker? I would love to hear from you regarding any of the following:

  • Creative ways to overcome anxiety

  • Ways in which your anxiety has affected your creativity

  • Creations inspired by your anxiety

  • Helpful tips for overcoming anxiety/panic attacks

  • Anything that you might think is relevant considering the theme of the Zine!

I will consider all forms of creativity, just get in touch at:

Follow us on Twitter: @CreativeAZine

If you would like to be anonymous please say so in your email. Please title your email ‘Creative Anxiety’. I am happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the zine.

I aim to respond within 42 hours.

Cross posted from the wordpress blog

Gratis Vagrant Issue 1: Family and Friends

So this was once formed on Tumblr and reblogged a few times, but then I decided to shut it down. But now I’m bringing it back as I work on the literary comp-zine for Lilliputians, it’s taking forever. However, instead of immediately  making an e-zine, all submissions will posted be here on this wordpress blog and when I hit the deadline, they will all be compiled into an e-zine, making an issue. Does this make sense? The zine is still called Gratis Vagrant. but the press is Gratis Vagabond.

So, using the same info from the shitty graphic I made:
“Gratis Vagrant is an e-zine about mixed race people. Writers can be anonymous or use a pen name or their actual given name. We want prose, poetry, confessions, or essays. We want artwork, selfies, or photography. The topics for issue 1 are family and friends.

Yeah, spooky.  Send them in, they will be posted on the blog, then on Halloween, Issue one will be over and it will be turned into a downloadable zine.

And I made an email specifically for this zine.

Send DOCs, JPEGs, and questions to gratisvagrant@gmail.com

There’s a Tumblr that I will be spreading this call for submissions on

What's up there, hope all is well.  I'm trying to put together a zine called "I love this album" and was looking for submissions.  Basically it's just a 1 page review, story or reason why you love a certain album.  The album can be from any genre or any time frame.  The only requirement is that you love the album.  I'm trying to get lots of different people involved so there could be a lot of different perspectives.  The zine will be a standard 8.5" x 11" folded paper so all you have to fill is 5.5" x 8.5".  I'm hoping to have this done for Boston Zine Fest October 11th so I would need the submission by October 1st.  You can just write it up here or if you prefer you can email me at theworddistro@gmail.com.  Also include the name of you zine and any contact info(In case people like what you wrote) with your submission.  Anyone who is included in the zine gets a copy when I print.  Any questions just write me back.
