Recently was approved to do a zine library @ my local branch! So PLEASE SEND ME YOUR ZINES!

Nina 14752 Crenshaw Blvd. #525
Gardena, CA 90249

Duplicates are appreciated since we may lose some when people borrow. Any/all topics/subjects are welcome but are pending approval depending on how loose the city wants to be with content.

Please share this with anyone you know who may want to donate! I also would appreciate any suggestions (either message me here or e-mail zinesbynina@gmail.com) of where I can request zines from other folx.

Thanks so much!

Ildrenchay Areyay Upidstay

I'm compiling an anthology of funny stories and anecdotes about children doing rather stupid things, I would love some of you to contribute to it and/or share the idea. Here's the blurb:

As I watched a 6 year old try to erase his felt tip drawing on a piece of paper with a whiteboard wiper, I realised something. Kids are stupid. Please don't misunderstand me, I love the little idiots; I find that children can show more empathy, understanding and compassion than the wisest old men. But my God can they be thick? I'm writing this from the privileged and fortunate position of surviving my youth, and that is quite something, considering that my favourite childhood game was hiding in cardboard box in the middle of a busy road.

If you have any good stories that you think would be suitable, please submit them to:

Please include a title under one of the following categories:

-At Home.
-At School.
-Art and Crafts.
-The Great Outdoors.
-Learning a Language.
-Kids are Amazing*.

*The final chapter will be devoted to stories demonstrating the heartwarming, brilliant, touching and intelligent things children do, showing just how much they have to offer the world.

Feel free to include a sentence about yourself e.g. 'Jim Green, an exhausted primary school teacher from Surrey' or 'Betty, mother of 6 dreading the Disney World trip next Summer'.

Guidelines and Conditions:
-The ideal length is a couple of paragraphs, but depending on the nature of the story it could be as short as a sentence or as long as a page. Longer than a page is possible, but the story's content would need to be good enough to justify it. The better written your contribution, the more likely it will be included.

-Please only use the child's first name or write anonymously. Please be tongue in cheek, the book is intended to tread close to the line, but not cross it. Do not send stories that you believe would upset the child or the child's parents/family. Any stories that are deemed insensitive or unkind will be excluded. The purpose of the book is to be playful, not hurtful.

-I will aim to avoid editing but I might have to make stylistic changes, so it matches the tone of the book.

-I'm sorry to say that I don't think I'll be able to pay any contributions (not on a young teacher's wage) other than offering you my sincere thanks, and your name in the book (if you want it there). Also a proportion of any profits made by the book will go towards educational charities (because let's face it, they need it).

-Finally, the deadline for submissions is December 15th (but the sooner the better please).

If you know any good humoured people that might have some stories, please share the idea around please point them in my direction.

A stupid kid, all grown up.

Sugared Water is currently seeking submissions for a special themed edition: Myth+Magic (through Aug 25).

Give us evocative, descriptive language. Spin and enchant us.

Poetry • Fiction • Creative Nonfiction • Comics & Sequential Art • Art

Some topics you might consider:
Magic gardens, tricksters, witchcraft & herbalism, magic realism, origin stories, retelling of myths about gods and monsters, divination & fortune telling, gods in the modern world.

We’ll consider creative nonfiction as long as it touches on some relationship with myth or magic, or perhaps an affection for oral narratives within your own family—you could tell us how fantastical figures have influenced your development as a writer. Personal essays welcome.

For full guidelines, please see our submissions page.

  • Fiction & CNF should follow standard manuscript format. We’ll consider micro forms and short forms up to 4,500 words.
  • Art & Comics: No more than 5 .JPGs/pages at a time, please. We already have a cover, so we’re looking for internal art. High contrast black & white pieces work best.
  • Poetry: submit all poems in one .doc, .docx, or .rtf. No more than five poems per submission. Please format your works in 12 point Times New Roman or Garamond font.

We read via Submittable.

Call for Submissions: Compilation zine seeking content from non-cisgender folks with experiences of sexual violence

In response to the binarism that pervades the majority of resources regarding recovery from sexual violence, I'm hoping to develop a compzine exploring non-cis (I use this term in an attempt to be as inclusive as possible – there exists an incredible diversity of gendered identities and experiences, and in attempting to delineate all possible permutations, I'm afraid I may inadvertently neglect someone) experiences of sexual trauma. I'm particularly interested in the ways in which non-cis identity may intersect with experiences of embodiment after sexual violence.

My hope for this project is to create a document that may serve as a point of reference for those navigating their own experiences of embodiment after sexual trauma.

Submissions can include poetry, non-fiction writing, visual art, and any other means by which you may want to express your experience. If you have a question, comment, suggestion, or submission, please e-mail tim (dot) c (dot) mcconnell (at) gmail (dot) com.

Submission deadline: August 31, 2014

Call for submissions: be part of a zine about love, crushes, squishes queerplatonic relationships and care outside of romantic-sexual relationship norms

There will be a "mini queer zine fest" on the 6th of september in berlin, germany (www.facebook.com/events/672991369458663) and i thought that's a great occasion for a third issue of the zine "Wer A sagt, muss nicht B sagen". The focus of the zine ist "more than just friends", in terms of that for some people there is nothing like "just" friends. I think there is need for more stories about friend-love, friend crushes, about finding a familie within your community that takes care of you, that no one gives you the feeling of being loved an having a place you belong to like your brother_sister, being in love with the band you're playing in, being a happy "single" because you're not looking for this one perfect person, because you already found them outside of romantic_sexual relationship norms. There is space for all that topics and your own topics, too!!! And as in the issues before there is a lot of space for your comics, stories, essays, poems to asexual and aromantic related stuff!!! The deadline for submissions is 15th of august. Send your submissions to: stoeren.frieda@gmx.de You can also write me if you have any questions. and i'm happy if you forward this call to your friends and communities!

GAMBA Zine is a provocative new literary magazine created to inspire passion and thoughtfulness outside the politics of mainstream publication. The founders, Chris Carr and Melissa Hunter Gurney, hope to challenge set truths through the generation of authentic, momentary, boundless, art. The idea spurred from extensive conversations about accessibility of independent and international artists, who avidly practice their craft but may not be recognized in the public eye.

We are looking for writers to submit work that pushes the limits of their craft and adds to an exhibition of progressive ideas from all over the world.

The theme for Issue #2 is:

Reverse Programming
In a society built on oppression and organized manipulation of right vs. wrong, successful vs. unsuccessful, fact vs. perspective what must we do to change the program inside and out?

Submission Requirements:

~ Send by August 5, 2014
~ No more than two single spaced, typed pages (1500 words)
~ Include a 3-5 sentence Artists Bio (website, blog address, email, etc....)
~ Email to huntergraham18@yahoo.com with the subject "GAMBA Submission

Seeking Real Queer Sex stories

I am launching a new zine project in which I will illustrate true stories of queer sex. (I am using the broad definition of queer as non-hetronomative and/or non-binary)

My ethos of inclusivity, sensitivity and honesty will be applied to Real Queer Sex, I want to represent the range of forms queer sex can take and the range of people who engage in it of every age, gender identity, sexuality, shape, size, race…

No story is too short or long to share, or too “vanilla” or kinky…

Thank you!

If you would like to submit a story please go to www.realqueersex.tumblr.com

If you would like to find out more about me www.theoysterknife.co.uk

By submitting your story you agree that it might be quoted, illustrated and published in my book titled “Real Queer Sex”.
