CALL OUT !!
I'm starting a new zine on mixed race identity and POC issues.

I'm from Australia and there's not many zines local to the area that really explore these issues.

And yes international submissions are accepted!

I'm after anecdotes, photos, poetry, artwork etc ..
I want to explore all that is involved in being a mixed race or POC person be it the highs or lows ..the connections ..the isolation.

This project is about building strength, communication, love and power!
It's opening the space for us to connect and learn from eachother!

please email glapglap@riseup.net

ps. this is my first zine.. I'm excited to hear from you all!

Muchacha fanzine Issue #9 “Body Positivity” CALLS OUT TO POC, trans* folks, disabled badasses, women, curvy/voluptuous/fat/thick Goddesses/Gods/Genderqueers, and lesbians/gays/bis/queers to submit poetry, prose, art, comics, photography, quotes, scripts, musical lyrics, ramblings, etc. concerning body positivity. Submissions are very open to interpretation and can include but are not limited to discussions/art related to how race, gender, size, sexuality, able-bodiedness, age, and class intersect with ideas related to body positivity and/or embodiment.

Contact me at Riotgrrrl56@yahoo.com with submissions. The deadline is Tuesday, July 1st and all contributors will receive a free copy when this edition is released in mid-July!

Note: *This edition of Muchacha aims to challenge the mainstream white/heterosexual/able-bodied/cisgender-centric feminist movement of “body positivity” that has and continues to exclude/ignore the fact that many marginalized people have distinct experiences with their bodies that are often underrepresented in our society. Another goal of this summer issue is to reclaim the term “body positivity” in a way that is inclusive of diverse voices and encourages reflectivity on how bodies can also be cause for pain, conflict, and/or healing.

I would like to make a fanzine about the 80s postpunk/goth/batcave scene. I was born decades after this happened so I haven't got much other than photos I found online. But I want to include photos, experiences, etc from people who were into this sort of thing "back in the day". Ideal time frame is 1978-1991. If this works out I'd like to get it published in time for the Portland Zine Symposium (basically print time would be early July). a contribution can be one sarcastic sentence or an entire essay. I'll print it regardless. It will be half-size (like folded generic 8/11 printer paper) and the length really just depends on if I get any submissions. Probably black and white copies, maybe colour covers. People who submit will get a copy of the finished zine.

Message me if you'd like to help out!
