Comment by Carrie C. on March 25, 2012 at 12:16pm Trans/Genderqueer Zine Project/Call For Submissions
Topic: Essays, anecdotes, comix, collage, & poetry from trans and genderqueer folks telling stories of adolescence and puberty. Take that as broadly or narrowly as you'd like; literally how your body was changing and how your brain was dealing with it, or going to a dance and how that made you feel, to coming out to your family, friends, teachers & classmates.
Audience: 7-12th grade students.
Specifics: The pieces should be free of cursing and super overt sexual content.
Why/Purpose: Puberty and adolescence are hard for everyone but it's extra alienating and difficult when you feel alone and or radically different from everyone else. I want this zine to be an offering to trans and gender queer kids who need to see themselves in print, to know that they are not alone. I want the stories to offer comfort and hope to some young people who may be struggling. I would like the zine to be a resource for trans and gender queer students and a way to open the eyes and hearts of cisgendered students, parents, and teachers.

Comment by Liza on March 11, 2012 at 5:12pm In addition to my recent post, more specifically, I would really appreciate any submissions on IDENTITY, including but not limited to coming out, figuring out your interests, circle of friends, sexuality, etc, family, reputation, decisions made based on what you want others to think of you vs. what you want to do, anything related to gender and identity, how "be yourself" isn't a great answer to much when you're a teenager, or is it?, etc. The zine is going to be a theme of identity WITHIN a theme of being an adolescent/teenager, so stuff related to teenage-dom (teenagerdom?) would be great too. Thanks so much! Email all submissions to creativeevolutionzine@gmail.com .

Comment by XPACE ZINE LIBRARY on March 10, 2012 at 11:14am Hello!
We are a new zine library at XPACE Cultural Centre (http://xpace.info), an artist-run centre in Toronto, Canada. Starting March 2012 the zine library will be accessible in our main space whenever we are open, during regular gallery hours Tuesday-Saturday, alongside our regular art programming. The zine library will exist with two other library projects: a monthly curated library, which coincides with main exhibits, and the boogie woogie mix tape library, a curated sound project wherein themed mix tapes may be listened to on provided walkmans.
We are always looking for donations! We like any sort of zine, from screenprinted newspaper to hand-bound one-off. We are collecting fanzines, mini zines, comics zines, art zines, and any other kind of self-published work.
For more info or to donate zines please contact alicia@xpace.info or mail zines directly to the address below...or come visit!!
