Get Fit For the Pit is a zine dedicated to fitness and nutrition for folks in the punk/activist/etc scene.  I have noticed that our subculture puts a lot of emphasis on touring, traveling, going to shows, running on little sleep, etc.   These things do not always add up to a healthy lifestyle, especially as some of us are getting older.

I wanted to put a zine out about taking back our fitness and health.

Issue #2 is going to be all about nutrition.  Some ideas to get you going...

• - What diet do you follow?
• - What have you cut out of  or added to your diet?
• - What success have you had with supplements?
• - How do you stay on track when traveling?

This is not just about being vegan or vegetarian.  (I am actually neither, but respect both diets!)   I am looking for essays or information regarding what has worked for you in your nutrition habits.  Have you made a change that has made a huge difference for you, perhaps even eliminating symptoms of an illness you may have?

You have the option of emailing me your essay for me to lay out or you can do a half-size layout yourself and mail it in. Please keep essays to roughly 1000 words.   I am also looking for cover art, so please get in touch if you are interested!  As of now, the deadline for the nutrition issue will be June 15th, 2011.

“Johnny America,” a little 'zine of fiction and humor published by the Moon Rabbit Drinking Club & Benevolence Society, is seeking submissions for our next, ninth issue. We’re particularly interested in items that work within the very loose theme of “Kansas.”

 

We’d like to emphasize the flexibility of the theme. A pithy review of Greensburg’s “world’s deepest hand-dug well” would certainly qualify, as would using Kansas as a barely-present backdrop for a short work of serious fiction. Kansas City, Missouri items would certainly be “close-enough,” and we’d be thrilled to consider a crypto-zoological profile of “MoMo,” the Missouri Monster, whose famous and baffling aversion to the sunflower state has never been adequately explained. Fiction, non-fiction, humor, reviews of dive bars or diners -- anything “Kansas” is game.

It's come to my attention that I should clarify: the letters can be happy, sad, to someone you don't know or someone you passed on the street... I have a letter in there that is one sentence and a letter that has taken up a page (two half-pages) handwritten. Some use their own names and some use fake ones. It's all up to you and something I would like to make more than one volume of, so more than one letter (at one time or anytime) is definitely welcome.

Hi all!

I'm looking for contributions for my first zine "Dear Anonymous". It's basically collecting letters people write when they can't - for whatever reason - say what they want to say to something. They can be one sentence or longer. It is a mini-zine at this point, so no huge letters at the moment.

If you'd like to contribute, I'll send you a copy of the zine. :) Even if it turns out your letter doesn't fit in the first one, I'll still send you a copy. (If you want a copy, include your mailing address so I can send it to you.)

I am looking for personal essays that involve radio related topics, interviews, and articles about any and all aspects of shortwave listening, free / pirate radio stations, community radio, low power radio and the “underground” era of FM radio. ISOLATED ZINE CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

this zine seeks to document the experience of activists, trans* queer folk, radicals, anarchists, environmentalists, etc. living in rural areas, suburbia, or any place where it is hard to organize and feels like there are no resources for you. it does not aim to say there is something “wrong” with living in these spaces, but if the individual submitting has a disenfranchising experience then please share how you overcome that if you do/can.

poetry, art, articles (personal, how to, etc.), and any other media submission is more than welcome.

HOAX ZINE has pushed back the deadline for issue #5 FEMINISM & COMMUNITY!

potential ideas for material include, but are not limited to:

• elitism (identity politics & border policing & hierarchies within communities)
• cliques & exclusivities
• success & personal stories
• the environment (food politics & urban gardening & eco-feminism & women in farming/farm lands)
• accessibility (language & locations (urban vs rural) & academia & pretention & childcare)
• work/ production (economics & capitalism)
• social movements (then vs now - legacy of the 60s)
• assimilation vs liberation (when, if, and how to assimilate)
• the self (self-care & where the self ends and community begins)
• what makes a community (how does one feel included? & how do we include others & what it means to find a “home” (limits of family))
• networking (action & teamwork & friendship)
• “diversity” (do we need varieties of people in a community? & tolerance vs acceptance (cultural relativity)
• space (physical/ emotional)
• legislation (policy & community organizing)
• love (hate & anger)

we also totally need lots of artwork (photos, collages, illustrations, drawings, paintings, comics, etc.)! particularly for background designs and things that compliment the written material.

we would like the zine to be finished as soon as possible, and would prefer to receive submissions by april 21st. if you are interested, please feel free to e-mail us your ideas for topics, or questions!
