Take the train in to Flinders Street station. If you get off in the middle of the length of the platform and head down into Degraves Subway, it's kinda right there as you head towards Degraves Street.

I'm about a two-hour train ride from Melbourn, but I was planning on heading down this month sometime anyway. Where are they located?

Best of luck to a fellow newbie, by the way. :)

Jaime, I'm a newbie as well, and I'm just learning things as I go. I was intending on initially going to an actual printer for my zine, but it costs too much money. If you're in Melbourne, the people from Sticky Institute will be more than able to help you out with any ideas you have.

Where does an Aussie newb start? I love zines and have gotten into them as much as I can on my own, but are there directions to this underground club? Or does one just stumble around enjoying the ride?

zine project - Print Council of Australia

Dear friends of the PCA,

To coincide with the June Issue of IMPRINT, which is themed ‘Artists Books’, The Print Council of Australia is encouraging its members and friends to produce zines in an enormous random zine exchange.

A zine [short for magazine] is indeed a small ‘booklet’, most often photocopied and stapled and can be filled with your writing- story, poetry, musings, and/ or your drawing, doodling, photographs, and is quite ephemeral in its nature. For example, I have come across ‘fan zines’, filled with musings on peoples favourite macaroons, recipes, journal entries describing the baking process, lists of people they gave the macaroons to.

It can be a personal story or factual observations, written or illustrative, the content is entirely up to you, our only requirement is in order to include the zine in the postage of Imprint, we need the zine to be small and lightweight. [Finished size: no larger than A6- 10.5 x 15cm. Up to 16 pages- = 2 x A4 sheets cut and folded.]

[And we ask that the content not be offensive in any way to a broad audience.]

If you google zines you will come across many examples- and wikipedia has quite a comprehensive definition and history of the "zine".

I hope you can let this information ruminate and I’m sure you will come up with some great ideas to put in a zine, If you can produce an edition of 15 [or 30 would be even better] zines [by photocopying] and post them to us, we would love to have them. They can be left unsigned if you prefer anonymity, or you can use a pseudonym, or of course you can sign them.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact, and as we need 1400 zines in total, please encourage your friends to make an edition for us too.

Please post as many zines as you can to me at the address below before March the 31st.

I thankyou in advance,

Kind Regards,

Georgia Thorpe

I think i've set unrealistic deadline for myself too daniel, have 3 half done projects I had planned to launch on saturday!! what was I thinking??!
my sister is studying at anu, and has been doing some work at the national gallery, apparently the indigenous artwork display is sensational! and the rest too! I think I'm perhaps a little overexcited over the whole thing... ?!

this is only my second zine fair appearance, so I will be reasonably disorganised (eg haven't really started the zine I'm planning to have ready for Saturday).

See you all there, onya to Sticky for this, it's going to be great.

For the interstate visitors, make sure to check out the new galleries they've just put in at the NGA, I just went over the weekend, it's really good.

Hi all,
Flaps will be there with a new Hate mail edition, plus some recently found back issues (yes we are a little disorganised). Plus I will have a series of zines I made in Japan. Come past for swaps or to say hi,

looking forward to it! Thanks so much to Sticky for the organisation!

that's ace! will keep an eye out for you daniel!! this will be my first ever public appearance with other 'zinester crew, so only slightly terrified! fingers crossed that its all well received and sunny day! the whole event sounds spectacular!! and I don't get out (of state) much with the family, so will have to curb my enthusiasm upon entrance or may get a few looks..
anyway - thanks for responding/heads up!! hopefully see you there! :)
