Vanessa - wow, $45 a table - plus insurance - plus (for those of us who live outside Newcastle) travel and accommodation*. Okay, that's just unaffordable.
*In my case I'd stay with parents.
To those thinking of having a stall at TiNA this year, did you know that it's $45 to have a zine stall? Also you need your own public liability insurance. I think this is pretty discouraging to most zine makers. If you think it's wrong, I encourage you to write to the organisers about it, at email@example.com.
Just thought I let you guys know that the TINA (this is not art) festival in Newcastle is holding it's annual Zine and Art market on the 30th September.
Details on getting a stall are here
Tina Zine Fair
I might see you there.
In case the link doesn't work (and for some reason it doesn't seem to be) here are the contact details:
To secure your space as a stall holder at the TiNA markets, please email Brad or Bianca at firstname.lastname@example.org
hey folks another zine launch to pop in your diary :)
YOU/Pony For Now Split Zine Launch VENUE Sticky Institute Shop 10, Campbell Arcade, Degraves St Melbourne, Victoria 3000 DATES: 12 Oct TIME: 6.00pm (60min)
'YOU' is a free weekly, anonymous, paper zine from Melbourne. 'Pony For Now' is a free, monthly, paper zine from Canberra. The two zines have come together as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival this year to produce a special split issue of both their zines. The zine is being launched at the Melbourne zine haven Sticky Institute. Canberra, Australia. It's not all about the politics! Beneath that 1970's facade (and between the roundabouts) lies a cultural underbelly that Nat, zinester of 'Pony For Now - The Canberra Chronicles' has been cut and pasting about, on monthly basis since January 2012.
this saturday (11th august) - someone (i guess me) will be launching my zine - pony for now (the canberra chronicles) issue 7. they'll be zines, music, vegan muffins & a raffle of an awesome canberra pack i've put together (gold coin - proceeds to sticky)... hope to see you there:
canberra zinestArs: nat ('pony for now - the canberra chronicles') & chiara ('rhetorical') are wanting to share the zine love and are inviting you - YES YOU - to the initial monthly/bimonthly canberra zinestAr meetup at Smiths Alternative Bookshop, 76 Alinga Street Canberra ACT 2601. SATURDAY 21st JULY. 12:30PM a monthly/bimonthly coffee catch up to discuss recent zine makes/purchases/ ideas... let's talk fanzines, politics, music, grrlll riot, art, comics, perzines, social theory... zine topics are endless..... an open event to anyone - zinemaker or not - there is more to technology than blogs, logs and microbits..... come along and get crazy with the gluestick!
we've a fb page - so spread the zine love:
Alice! You are definitely in the right place! Zine central in Melbourne is the Sticky Institute, at the Degraves Street subway (you get to it by going down the stairs on Flinders Street, the side opposite the station). They're open Wednesday to Saturday, 12 to 5 in the afternoons.
Polyester Books also has a good zine section. They're on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. Open just about any time.
There are two main zine fairs in Melbourne, the Sticky zine fair - that's in, I think, February - and Page Parlour, the zine-fairish part of the Emerging Writers' Festival. Sorry, that's just happened. There are plenty of other markets, but if you chat to the good people at Sticky (also on Wemakezines) they should be able to help you, offer suggestions for other zine fairs - blog.stickyinstitute.com.
And for non zine related stuff, Melbourne is a pretty hip and buzzing and happening place when it comes to poetry/literary events. There's plenty of regular open-mic poetry gigs, readings, etc that I like to get to. Check out the site melbournespokenword.com!
Het, does anyone know about any cool zine shops, events and festivals in Melbourne, Victoria? I NEED SOMEWHERE TO GO AND SOMETHING TO DO!
Dear zinesters in Queensland... WAKE UP! Where'd everybody go? I just moved here to study from the States and it looks like the zine scene here died years ago! Hopefully it is just sleeping. This is a wake up call. Blow that dust off that tape dispenser, brush the cobwebs off those scissors, and lets get going, people! What are people working on, any festivals need organizing, any libraries looking for zines? I want to know! Send me a friend request.
