Dave Roche form the US, who wrote the book On Subbing is popping into town in March 2009. Details on his Sydney show are up on www.zines.wordpress.com - he's also doing stuff in Melbourne and probably other cities!

Hi ya'll, This is Dan Wallwork (Wally) here from the Upholstery Arts Collective in Cairns. www.theupholstery.com
We are the group organising the Zine exhibition/event called 'Gutter Trash' up here in March 2009 (27th).

We (the Upholstery) published our first zine 'A5' in 2006 and went on to producing 6 issues ( some of the last issues are still available). We also had some in Melbourne at Polyester on Brunswick St.

So Far Gutter Trash has attracted about 7-9 different local zines and seems to be still growing! Cool huh! a zine scene in the Far North!!!

At the mo' its only open to Far North Queenslanders.... to try and razz our crew up!
But Maybe you can send me links or contacts for your zines and we will put it out there as part of Gutter Trash!

We are also looking at starting a little zine selling operation from our office. If so we'd love hook up with other zinesters and maybe sell their wares to an unsuspecting local scene!

Now that I've found this site i'll keep you all posted.

Calling all Far Northern zine-sters and artists, this March Upholstery will be having their first show for 2009, called Gutter Trash! This is a show about Zine culture, street press and random self publish ramblings.

Cairns (Australia) has had a recent spate of self-published offerings, so Upholstery thought they would bring em all together and showcase the best, the worst and the randoms!

No Upholstery are not reviving their last zine A5, but will be launching a new creation as part of the exhibition at Crate 59.

So those of you who produce/edit these fine print rags better fire up your peeps, contact Upholstery and let them know you're in.....and lay down some of that random print magic!

Artists who want to get involved and don't know who to contact, please get in touch with Upholstery and they'll direct you to the nearest backyard print mogul!

This is the first call out for this, it will also be going out through the membership email list and on the Upholstery site, more info will also be found at our new office at 59 Sheridan St, Cairns (in Crate 59).

This Exhibition is currently only open to North Queensland publications/artists (Cape York to Townsville)

Title: Gutter Trash
Date :TBC
Venue: Crate 59 (59 Sheridan St, Cairns)

I'm in Stafford Heights - but I'm only just making my first zine - poetry, calligraphy, kid's story, plus??? I'm hoping someone's going to organise or publicise some sort of 'event' soon. It would be good to meet.

I'm in Brisbane. Any brisbane people want to trade?
Something should definitely be organized.. At least a meet-up.

not any I know about, Lucie. Any Brissie people on here know? Perhaps some of the QLD-ers could band together organise something?
