Comment by TimT on June 23, 2012 at 4:38am Alice! You are definitely in the right place! Zine central in Melbourne is the Sticky Institute, at the Degraves Street subway (you get to it by going down the stairs on Flinders Street, the side opposite the station). They're open Wednesday to Saturday, 12 to 5 in the afternoons.
Polyester Books also has a good zine section. They're on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. Open just about any time.
There are two main zine fairs in Melbourne, the Sticky zine fair - that's in, I think, February - and Page Parlour, the zine-fairish part of the Emerging Writers' Festival. Sorry, that's just happened. There are plenty of other markets, but if you chat to the good people at Sticky (also on Wemakezines) they should be able to help you, offer suggestions for other zine fairs - blog.stickyinstitute.com.
And for non zine related stuff, Melbourne is a pretty hip and buzzing and happening place when it comes to poetry/literary events. There's plenty of regular open-mic poetry gigs, readings, etc that I like to get to. Check out the site melbournespokenword.com!
Het, does anyone know about any cool zine shops, events and festivals in Melbourne, Victoria? I NEED SOMEWHERE TO GO AND SOMETHING TO DO!
Comment by Tee Rex on June 22, 2012 at 5:00pm Hey everyone, I've started a group for a travelling zine box. So basically I'm going to start up a parcel/box of zines that we'll send around Australia. When you get the box, you take what zines you'd like and replace them with more zines, then forward it on to the next participant. Check out my group here for more details and to sign up! x
Comment by Tiny Rockstar on June 22, 2012 at 6:10am Dear zinesters in Queensland... WAKE UP! Where'd everybody go? I just moved here to study from the States and it looks like the zine scene here died years ago! Hopefully it is just sleeping. This is a wake up call. Blow that dust off that tape dispenser, brush the cobwebs off those scissors, and lets get going, people! What are people working on, any festivals need organizing, any libraries looking for zines? I want to know! Send me a friend request.
Comment by Sarah on May 10, 2012 at 10:42pm Hey everyone
I'm making a zine scene in my local area, a fellow zinester and myself have been spreading the love of zines with local young artists and to keep it growing I am starting up a Zine Library, it will live at Transit Lounge Caboolture (which is a non for profit youth arts organisation I work for)
We are just getting our collection started so the more zines we can add to it the better! If you would like to add to our collection please send your zines to
Transit Lounge Caboolture
PO Box 159
Caboolture, Australia QLD 4510.
Include your return address and I'll send you one back (one of my own or another local zinester) to say thanks.

Comment by Sarah on January 26, 2012 at 5:15pm @ Lucie Jones - I live on Bribie Island too. If you're looking for zine fairs I don't think there are any locally but online there are a few Zine stores like www.smellslikezines.com which is QLD based. in Brisbane there are twilight markets on at Westend on Friday nights and some folks are setting up stalls selling zines there, some zines also get sold at the monthly Suitcase rummage on occasion. I work for an arts org called Transit Lounge based in Caboolture and we are running a few zine projects. Visble Ink in Brissy also has a Zine Library.
You can friend us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/transitlounge if you're keen to get connected to us.
Comment by Vanessa Berry on January 2, 2012 at 5:52pm This is a message for Sydney folk - just letting you know about a couple of zine workshops that I'm running in January. The first in on Thursday 5th January at Mosman Library. Later in the month I'm running a workshop at Blacktown Library, on the Wednesday 18th January. There are a couple of other western sydney library workshops run by Emma D, too, details here. All are for people 18 and under but I'm sure you can bend the rules a bit.
