A Zine Thing

"Its time we had a zine thing on the peninsula!"
This was the drive behind the birth of A Zine Thing.

...
Help us demystify this 'thing' ("what is a zine?") and come along and let go in a diy, cut and paste kinda way!
We will encourage you to self publish your work in an affordable, accessible format and release it into the world via this diverse underground, independent & empowering culture!

"THIS IS FRANKSTON" A Community Zine Project

It's time we started thinking about collaborative zine projects!

At the January social catch up we discussed a few possible topical points about frankston city, and I think we should put these, and any others you can think of, together in the form of a community zine project.

The end result is intended to be a documented, real depiction of how frankston  is seen and lived in and what it means to by those that live/work/visit here. This zine will contain words and images drawn from our time spent in frankston: our experiences; honest and raw memories; celebrated and mourned positive and negative and perfectly ugly and conflictingly beautiful all at once - all of it!

Submission forms are available from local hangouts & the submission box is in the frankston libraries foyer. 1ST ROUND SUBMISSIONS DUE 31st MARCH.

Not quite, but I'm somewhat close by and occasionally visit when I'm not busy with work and school. That said, I would be more than happy to help. If that's okay, of course.

Hi Alannah, you're from the Mornington Peninsula/Frankston region? If so, then welcome aboard A Zine Thing.

Ugh, you people are in Melbourne! Finally, I've found a few zinesters in my general vicinity. Eeep.

POETS OF THE APOCALYPSE
by PAPER MONSTER PRESS
December 2013

We are tribeless and all tribes are ours.
We are homeless and all homes are ours.
We are nameless and all names are ours.
To the fascists we are the faceless enemy
Who come like thieves in the night, angels of death:
The ever moving, shining, secret eye of the storm.
-"Open Letter to Filipino Artists by Emmanuel Lacaba"

PMP's 10th issue to date. An all-poetry anthology that aims to put together in one book trends in contemporary poetry from the Philippines and beyond. An ambitious project that wishes to span the whole planet. 100 poems in one book.

Guidelines:
1. Each poet may submit 1-3 poems (of which the editors may get 1-3 poems for inclusion), with a maximum of 5 sentences bio-note.
2. Poems submitted must be unpublished. Poems submitted must be cut and pasted in the body of the email. Attach if you want, but please put the poems in the body of the email. It allows us to read and access the poems more easily. Plus if we have to download attachments in a laptop full of viruses while we're running late for work, and there's one attachment per poem, we can't even tell you how pissed we become.
3. Artists may submit cover art for this project. Cover art is front and back cover with the words Paper Monster Press and Poets of the Apocalypse in the front cover.
4. Artists submitting their work agree to allow PMP to publish their work in zine format (around 50 or so copies), and an e-book format (which will be sold through Paypal, or Amazon, or wherever).
5. Payment is 1 copy of the zine (while supplies last), if not, its a copy of the e-book.
6. Submissions must be sent to papermonsterpress@yahoo.com only.
7. Deadline is on August 31, 2013.

About to embark on a sorting of submissions mission - wish me luck zinesters!

Harps - this makes me all kinds of happy!

I truly hope they contribute - one doesn't need to be well read to share a story or veiw point, although it can help get your point across, simple language can be just as effective. There is no way to qualify your legitamacy to be part of a community based project other than existing and sharing!

I am getting excited to see what kind of stories we can uncover to spread via This Is Frankston!

Had a bloke at Frankston library yesterday who was keen on writing for This Is Frankston. He prefaced his discussion by announcing that he wasn't very good at reading. He later took several submission forms to share with friends. This could be a literacy success story!
