We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

I am seriously considering running a workshop for the Fringe Festival in my city, because there are not enough zine makers around, but I can't work out how to fit a workshop into one day.

I can imagine a class that would run for weeks, focussing on a different aspect of zine making ech time, like an art class, so that people could try a bit of everything, and end up with their own zine at the end, and the time to produce and distro it.

But a one-day workshop would be heaps tougher. Someone suggested just a seminar ABOUT zines, but I have never really been that excited about being a part of the zine establishment in the sense that I dont think its really that hip to tell people what a zine is and how you should make one.

Just wondering if anyone else has any ideas about what kind of workshop would be good. It would be great to end up with a zine at the end, of course.

We usually do one-off workshops, often under 2 hours, so we're experts at cramming it in!

We like to do compilation zines - each person making a page. It makes a great snapshot of a group on a particular day.

Sometimes we do topics, but not always.

There's been another discussion on this ning about workshops, which has some tips, plus we have our basic workshop format and ideas on our website

I'm sure you'll get some other ideas.
