We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Songs about zines, songs that reference zines, songs that feel "zine-like," ...

For the latter I thought of "The Chelsea Hotel Oral Sex Song" by Jeffrey Lewis:

Kind of "cheating" but: http://www.songlyrics.com/index.php?section=search&searchW=&... (relatively few songs refer to zines, apparently).
i released a zine called "La realidad es solo un suspiro" which is is mini zine all about lyrics of songs that i was listeing a lot at this time,of bands from Germany,Usa and Spain.all lyrics are translate to spanish
im working now on the second issue :)
First thing I thought of was "Flagpole Sitta" by Harvey Danger. It has the line "I wanna publish zines and rage against machines."

In "Great Leap Forward" Billy Bragg sings, "Someone asking questions and basking in the light of the fifteen fame-filled minutes of a fanzine writer". Here's a clip of him playing it on Letterman back in the day.

Also, "Rumble Seats and Running Boards" by Cleveland Bound Death Sentence has the lines, "What about the nights drinking down at Passout/Tasha found a hundred dollars wet on the sidewalk/split three ways enough for two bags of speed/and five hundred copies of my motherfucking fanzine." But that's an Aaron Cometbus band, all of his songs sound kind of ziney. I couldn't find it on the internet, but this somehow turned up when I did a Google video search of "Cleveland Bound Death Sentence."
No Exposure by legendary Boston hardcore band The Freeze was a pretty harsh rebuke of zine editor of Forced Exposure, one of the bigger music zines of the '80s and '90s that they felt wielded too much power.

It's fanzines like mine
That will ruin your scene
'Cause I see things my way
There's no in between
My parents finance it
So I do as I please
Bringing all opposition
Down to its knees

You'll get no exposure
I have no scruples
Brainwashing my hardcore pupils
If your band doesn't take out
an ad in my 'zine
I'll pretend you broke up

My pictures are perfect
My layout precise
To maintain the quality
I jack up the price
One day a band's in
The next day it's out
I guess we don't know what
We're talking about

You'll get no exposure
I have no scruples
Brainwashing my hardcore pupils
If your band doesn't take out
an ad in my 'zine
I'll pretend you broke up
Zinester Tom Hendricks wrote a song about Zine World:
Fear of 'Zine Failure by the Hidden Cameras!
