We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

I frequently participate (and am mildy obsessed with) www.bookcrossing.com. It's a site where you can register and track where your books go, make journal entries about what you thought of the books, trade books, etc. One of the things you can do on the site is start or participate in a "bookbox." The idea of a bookbox is that you send out a box of books to the first in a list of participants. They look through it, take out a few books, go through their old books and put the same number back that they took from the box.

Unfortunately, you can't trade zines on bookcrossing because they aren't technically books and don't hold up well when mailed again and again or released into the wild. However, I love bookboxes so much that I'd really like to do something similar with zines.

I would put a certain number of zines in a box or big envelope and then gather a list of people who want to participate. I would send it off to the first person, they would take some zines, and then add the same number of zines from their collection. Then they would send a message to the next person in line to get their mailing address and send it off to them and so on.

What do you all think of this idea? Would anyone be interested in being part of something like this? At the end, the last person sends the box/envelope back to me.

yeah this sounds great, count me in.
I'd like to do it as well. I've done this with ATCs and it has worked really well with short lists of people. Unfortunately if even one person fails to mail it on the people down list get nothing.

Good idea -- I think we need a signup list!! XP
zine-boxers...
the
1001 journal
program has been going on for years...

the San Francisco journal program
just has a waiting list at the site
and the ..............holder-of-the-journal
simply sends an e-mail to the next 'waiter'
etcetera...etcetera

soooooooooo, mab...go to the 1001 journal
blogs to 'organize' the group here...

also...the BOX should start w/ maybe SIX
zines...then each 'receiver'...puts in
a zine no longer wanted
PLUS PLUS
the zine-they make...

but the BOX should probably go back to MAB
when there are say 20 zines in it...lest one need UPS to truck the box round!!!:):)

oh, some of the 1001 journals
have been traveling since
2002...............!!
so we are not getting
into
a
100-yard dash type-of-activity...:):)
