We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Hello, I have been in the process of writing my first of what I hope to be a nice long series of perzines for quite some time now. I'm not even sure if what I have is more than enough for a single issue, I just do articles on what comes to mind.

I've done some work here and there collaborations and compilations but this first one all on my own is totally the most daunting. I would say my issue is half procrastination and half self-criticism. But I'm sure yall know which of the two is harder to overcome.

Anyway, I'm just looking for stories, advice, encouragement or whatever about your first zine. Did it meet your expectations? How long did it take? Did you have trouble getting it out in the world?

Thanks,
Nat

It all depends on what you want from zines. I would say to first, make something you are proud of right now. That might change next week or next year but I think it is important to be proud of it when you make it.
Thank you for replying. I honestly think what I was working on I was taking a little to seriously and it was becoming daunting, like some Homer's Odyssey type stuff. I've put that on the back burner and have just been doing some short art-esque zines and little wierdies, it's quite fulfilling! I guess to sum it up, it's better for me to take it in stages. Thanks again!
My first zine (though some might call it a comic) was something I called The Timelike Line. I often referred to it as "A magazine of science comic strips." Though there is no Timelike Line now, much of its content continues though in a different form (like web comics for example).
