We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

We're closing in on the end of the year and maybe it's a still a bit early to be thinking about New Year's resolutions and goals for next year. I don't really make New Year's resolutions anymore (I never keep them) but I do set goals, and I've been giving a lot of thought to what I want to do with zines in 2010.

Here are my zine goals for 2010:

~Put more effort into getting my zines out there via fliers, distros, trades, etc.
~Finally do that zine workshop I've been talking about
~Get better at HTML and learn CSS so I can make cool zine-related websites
~Experiment more with zine size and layout
~Do the 24 Hour Zine Thing again in July!

Does anyone else set zine goals like this? What are yours for the upcoming year?

So a zine about Rob Lowe for Paul Reubens and a zine about Pee-Wee Herman for Rob Lowe?
Great topic idea!

~ Make at least two issues of Frothy (one will be a 2009 retrospective which may or may not be done before the end of the year)
~ Start a guerilla art zine
~ Generate some interest with the zine workshop I run at a youth arts organization
~ Table at the Portland Zine Symposium
~ Make some fliers for Frothy and other zines
~ Send zines to some distros
~ Get my desktop copier fixed
~ Write more letters to people whose zines I enjoy
~ Start reviewing zines, either in Frothy, online, for a third party review zine, or all of the above
~ Trade zines with someone from every continent (except, you know, the one without any people)
~ Work with Jerianne and the Nashville Femmes on a possible Middle Tennessee zine event/festival
~ Start a monthly litzine of my short stories
~ Submit an article to someone else's zine when such a thing is solicited
~ Finally write something for Steampunk Magazine
~ Actually do something with the vast amounts of thrifted books I have molding away in the utility room

Jeez, I have a lot to do.
- make a few more issues of cocoa/puss
- work on my old zine called "the black (m)other" on black punk rock parenting, and get submissions for that
- grow more of a backbone, not care what people think, keep writing whatever the fuck i want to
- attempt a 24 hour zine or two
- make a few random shorter zines on the backs of my old school papers or recycled papers and just leave them around for people to read. more free stuff this year.
- have a booth at the afropunk festival
- work on a split zine project with my boyfriend
- find other cool zines to read that are not same old/same old and really support them
-write more letters to zine writers that i like

Yes to more ziney friends! Hi Raequel!

* finally sit down and DO ALL my zine projects in a timely manner so i dont end up pulling a zine out of my hind-parts at the last minute (before a zine fest or deadline)

* get my stuff into some stable distros that wont shutdown on me without notice and never send so much as an email to that fact (names withheld to prevent the drama)

* when i do my zines, take my time and do them with better layout!

* make more ziney friends!

*take up a more active role in the local zine scene (philly and environs)

~that's all from me right now... happy new year and good riddance to a turbulent decade i never want to live through again!!!
-Cheaptoys #5 (doing better layout & printings)
-Portland Zine Symposium
-organizing my library on a virtual catalog (this include books/zines/records)
-zineguide to nice
-translate Olly Olly Oxen Free #4 in french
- Manage to get more of Fallopian Falafel issue 10 on Sexual Violence out to more women. That's my only goal and I think it's important enough.
So maybe if I put all my effort into this one goal, I might actually get it done :-)
Where are you going?!

1. Finish a zine. Just one would be just spiffy, two might be asking for too much.
2. Expand the distro catalog to include more minicomics, work on site design and CSS so it doesn't look so circa-1999.
3. Put out ads in The Comics Journal and maybe a few other places (my "advertising budget" is not too big though).
4. That zine I mentioned in #1? Send it out to more places, maybe try to get it reviewed, even though it's, y'know, HARD.
5. Finally hook up with the zine scene here in Pittsburgh... a scant few months before I might be leaving forever.

2010 will be an interesting year... or not.
Good question!

- Make at least three more issues of Here. In My Head, and make sure they're a lot better than the previous issues.
- Make a few simple mini-zines to throw in with trades.
- Write to zinesters more regularly.
- Keep my zine/music/personal blog updated and write more zine reviews there.
- Print a load of decent flyers.
- Write articles for other zines (compilation zines?)
- Attend at least one zine event.
- Make a zine for the 24-hour Zine Thing!
I have never set zine goals for a year. this is like a new years resolution for zine motivation.
thanks for posting this.

my goals:
1 new issue of my zine (Muse, News, Noose). 2 if I do not run out of ideas.
1 collaboration zine (by summer)
1 possible collaboration zine (w/ ficition students in my classes)

good luck all for the 10 in 20
