We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

How do you guys feel about typewriter fonts?  Do you have a favorite, or do you think they're... well, fake?

My typewriter is broken at the moment and I can't afford to fix/replace it, but I'm working on a perzine, and I've always used typewriters for perzines.  I'm messing around with typewriter fonts, but they all just look almost... tacky.  But I feel like I might just be being snobby.

I use American Typewriter. I don't think it's wrong to use fonts.
yeah, I was feeling kind of wrong about it, which I know is silly. But I feel awkward when the font looks perfect because it's almost like... I want my writing to match, haha.

I've found one called Last Words that has faded out letters and imperfections, and it's making me a little more comfortable.

I have used typewriter fonts. I think it is fine. Some of the messy ones are hard to read, though, and are better for titles or something. You can find lots of great free fonts (typewriter and others) at dafont.com
here's a whole bunch of typewriter fonts from dafont.com

Some are more grungy than others, but I'm pretty sure that most are free to use.
I like using typewriter fonts- two of my favorites are A Damn Mess (not really a typewriter font, but has a bit of that look) and Adler which is a bit on the grungy side.
I used to use typewriter and handwritten fonts before I got my first typewriter. I didn't like it as much because I was pining after a typewriter, but I think they're fine. I like the looks you can get with computer fonts sometimes that I can't get doing everything by hand, really.
