The war against creativity

And I've been aware of the attacks on creativity for many years. For example, a number of people have told me that all ideas have been used up and therefore no new ideas exist. Of course that sort of statment often comes from people who assume that their limited understanding of things applies to everyone. And then there's the rapid rejection of anything new or uncommon. When I propose a wild and radical idea, the response I often get is "It won't work, so don't bother." But even if it doesn't work, that doesn't mean you can't get it to work eventually (unless it really can't work.)

In this age of spectacular mediocrity, you are expected to never create and never imagine because your job in life is to be boring and bland. Yet these same folks who attack creativity and innovation neglect to realize that the technological innovations they love so much (like music downloads) were created by people who used creativity and innovation. Ho ve! Ho ve forever!

What a ridiculous thing for someone to say... consider how far humanity has come in just the last 100 years... how much innovation and design the leap from riding horses to planes trains and automobiles.

I've had it said to me a couple of times, and I always think "how sad for you that you're that uninspired".

My guess is that those who say there are no more new ideas are assuming that their limited understanding of the universe is equivalant to knowing everything about the universe. Now who is that possible? The point here is the nobody knows everything. Based on that fact, I feel confindent in saying there are still many new ideas that are left to discover.

Oh hell yeah, definitely. I'm always the first to admit that while I do know a lot, in the grand scheme of things I know eff all. But there are a lot of dumb know it alls out there ;P
