Stories of Abuse

I am looking for contributions for an upcoming zine issue regarding abuse...domestic violence, rape, etc. If you are interested in sharing your abuse experience, how you got out of yr abusive situation, and how it has changed yr life please send submissions to me via email. Also if you would like to receive a copy of the zine abuse issue be sure to provide me with yr mailing address in the email you send.

the wording of some of this is kind of weird...i don't mind being public about being an abuse survivor, but it rubs me the wrong way when people hear that & assume that i must be "strong," or even stronger than i would have been had the abuse never occurred. i would prefer not to be "applauded" for having been abused. it's something that should have never happened. words like "applaud" & phrases like "abuse makes survivors stronger" almost veers into acting like abuse was a good thing in some weird, twisted way, which i know is not your intention.

i guess i'd just reconsider the phrasing to be a little more sensitive to abuse survivors. i certainly would not use the word "victim" at all in a call for submissions.

I appreciate the feedback....and after re-reading my post I can see yr point of view. I only want to shed light on how overcoming abuse has effected the lives of those who have been abused....I am in no way saying that abuse is a good thing...having been through it myself I know first hand just how miserable and scary it can be...and I apologize for using the term 'victim' I did not realize that this could or would offend anyone.

I just wanted to say i agree with Ciara. I got pretty upset when i first read this submission call... but of course then realized you meant no harm. I'd really rather not have anyone put on a foam finger or do the wave for me because i am a survivor of a sexual assault. Learning from each others stories are good and evaluating the situations can be healthy if the person can talk about it openly... but i'd like to think i am a strong person for reasons other than a really shitty thing that happened in my past.
