Seeking contributions for sex issue!

I'm working on the first issue of my first zine and I only have a few contributions so far. If you'd like to contribute something (it's a themed zine, and this issue is all about sex), please contact me ASAP. I'm looking for absolutely anything related to the subject of sex. Send me your articles, essays, drawings, photos, comics, prose, poetry, autobiographies, interviews, thoughts or whatever you can find lying on your bedroom floor. For this issue, I'm looking for absolutely anything within the realm of SEX - body image, sexual fetishes, abortion, abstinence, straight edge and sex, sexual identity, masturbation, fat sex, homosexual/trans/gender culture/identity, coming out stories, love vs. sex, porn, phone sex, erotica, religion and sex,the corporatization of sex, poly-sexual relationships...and the list goes on and on. The Free Bain is 100% uncensored. Nudity, vulgar and/or offensive language will not be excluded.

I'd made 10 or so contribution zines before I made one entirely of my own content. I love the social aspect of zines way more than I love talking about myself (which, ok, I am also pretty fond of). I get your point, but it came out a bit harsh.

My project is more of a collective effort. I don't want it to be all about me. I have several contributions, but I wanted to open it up to people I don't know yet. :)

I definitely understand why you wouldn't want to invest so much time into someone without track record, but I'm looking for people who want to share their thoughts, experiences and creativity freely. I'm not interested in contributions from people who tend to be stingy with their ideas.:) I've contributed to zines that never made it past the first issue, some never even made it off the ground at all. I don't care if it's been printed before or if you're going to be publishing it in another zine, I just want the experience of collaborating with people on a zine. I'm not going to be making any money here, so if someone has something they'd like to give me- I'd be more than willing to accept it.

This place is rife with people excited to do something, and posting all about it, and, ultimately, doing nothing.


How 'bout you fill your first issue with YOUR stories...and then ask others to submit stuff an issue or two down the road?

That's a question I'd like to ask ANYONE who comes on here asking for submissions.

My first issue was initially supposed to be about religion, but I received an incredible contribution from a writer who works with me and it inspired me to make the first issue the sex issue. I'm not trying to be sensational, just trying out a few things so I know what works and what doesn't.


Also- I now see what people mean when they say the entire zine culture has turned to shit because people crave some sort of drama. I'm relatively new to it all, but this thread is clearly indicative of why a few people I know have stopped trading zines or socializing with zinesters altogether. Bring on the constructive criticism, but sheesh!

I'm just looking for content, not a finished page. But, anything you'd like to contribute would be more than welcomed. Currently, the deadline for rough content is November 10th. But, I just need something rough to fill space then. I can give you an extension if you need it. The final product will go to press on the 16th. Hi, I put a sex zine together that I gave out for free at the 2007 london zine symposium. It was half me, and half contributions from friends - interviews about diverse bits. It was pretty ropey and not done carefully, but I'm glad it was collaborative and I think the act of 'doing' a sex zine is quite a liberating thing. i had never spoken publicly about sexual feeilngs, neuroses etc.. before, and actually after having done so it felt that i hadn't revealed anything 'secret' about myself. (There were just a couple of people I didn't want to see it, which is why i gave it out away from my home town!)

I totally hear what you're saying. I've written some great stuff that never got printed, and it's frustrating. but now I just save a copy for myself. if the zine i contribute to doesn't come out, then i publish it myself down the line.

If I get a chance, i'll try to write something tonight and email it to you! But i'm currently trying to finish a new issue of MY zine for the MKEzinefest this weekend! ha, you know how that goes...

Thank you. :) I actually just had to expand from 8 to 10 pages after receiving so many contributions. I'm pretty excited to see how it all comes out.

Wow, thank you very much.[by the way, I'm a huge fan of your work] I'm really excited about my first issue. Although, technically, I've been making zines since I was a kid (hand-written family newsletters and "magazines" with fake interviews and glossy ads from Rolling Stone stapled in), this is my first attempt at creating something of substance collaboratively. I spend most of my time working as a reporter at a very small local newspaper- where I write about watermelon festivals and 90-year-old farmers. Hah. This is my creative outlet, definitely. Thanks to everyone who contributed! I think I have a good start here. I'll make sure to send the fruits of our labor to you when I get them printed!

Just do your thing and ignore the negativity. It's displaced creative people. They become critics when they aren't cranking out gems.

But it is a bummer that this stuff seemingly inevitably turns into hatin' on some shit when all you are looking for is people to collaborate on some brilliance.

That said, I would contribute something but I'll be on the train for the next 2 days. I could probably get you something next week but maybe it's too late....?
