a place for zinesters - writers and readers
Hello, friends! I've finished a new zine. It's about my trips to Australia and Southeast Asia, and about getting older and trying not to feel like a weirdo. My copy connection ran out (and by that I mean I got busted scamming copies at Staples) so I'm taking pre-orders to help pay for printing it. You can pre-order it, as well as read excerpts from it and my other zines, here.
Also, anyone who donates $100 or more will receive a cd with the audio version -- me reading the entire zine in the voice I use when I talk to small dogs.
Flamdoodle number one is ready to go. It is 26 pages of stories about horrible people at yard sales and a dick mug...not to mention other fun stuff. Just let me know if you'd like to get one or trade.
Now available for download! For the first time anywhere- the complete archive of all 5 issues (92 pages) of the Iowa City punk/industrial/art zine published in the early 80's. Set your own price for the download, (proceeds go to keeping OBSOLETE! alive...) or enter the secret code word in the "discount" box at checkout for a FREE download. The secret code word is the answer to this question.... What is the first name of the teenage bass player of one of IC's first hardcore bands, who is interviewed in Issue#1 of VB? If you were in IC in the day, you know!

Dear Musea Readers,
The new issue of Musea is now, not only in print and out at the usual Dallas places, but also on the net on my blog, at:
This is a BIG one - part one of a two parter. A sci fi novel in progress, part one summary!!!
Check it out, see the cover art, and see what you think. This may be the most elaborate sci-fi novel ever attempted - IF I can finish it.
(editor of the 20 year old zine Musea)
Webmaster Matthew Creed.

a new issue of deafula is out, issue #5:
have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a hearing parent and receive the news that your child has irreversible hearing loss?
now imagine this news in the time before the ADA existed, before there was a such thing as an IEP, before institutional or medical guidance really existed. imagine the only advice the doctor gave you was “well, just try to teach her how to speak.”
this is an interview on what it’s like to be a hearing parent raising a deaf child. this is an interview with my mother.
you can buy it on etsy.. you could also just paypal me $3 (postage paid) to thecityonfire (at) gmail.com. i also love trades, so email me if you want to set one up!

Here’s the intro:
“Issue #1 of Vapour Trails was written between the years 2009 & 2011, during the dying & death of an eight year long romantic relationship. Considering the backdrop for a lot of this writing, themes that crop up tend to revolve around loneliness, loss, nostalgia, awakening, and various introspections."
Includes some poetry and poetic-type rants, lots of drawings, lots of emotions.
