We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

I know we're all going to do it, so I guess we could keep it neat and tidy by putting it all in one thread. So here goes, JUST post about your new issue in this thread, don't discuss or reply, that way new members can easily see what output we're all responsible for!

The latest edition of the revived Last Word is now pub, and you can download it for only 99 cents! (Cheap!)

It's the Back-to-School issue, folks, and this ish talks about such nifty topics as...

• A hilarious trip to Milwaukee.

• Why I didn't go to the Occupy National Gathering.

• Minnesota fights school calendar changes.

• The Federal Porn Allotment.

• When people drank beer at school.

• Bad hotel reviews

• More funny YouTube clips.

• PayPal woes.

• The latest in my war against ad servers that cheated me out of my revenues.

And remember, if I can ever find an ad server that I believe is honest, I'll be able to offer The Last Word for free again. Hope springs eternal.

Best all, The Last Word is a supporter of the Occupy movement.

The latest volume of my comic illustrating Craigslist missed connections is out now and available to purchase!

Here are a couple of recent reviews!

This is a review by Kevin at the Optical Sloth:

You guys are already reading this series, right? This is where my hatred of/general annoyance at social media really slows me down, because all I can do is assume that you’re already reading this. If not, this is a series by Robert Hendricks where he illustrates those creepy/hopeful/soul-crushing “missed connections” messages on Craigslist, and it’s consistently a thing of beauty.

This is the review by Justin Giampaoli at the Poopsheet Foundation

Here's a snippet:

...Whether it’s empty longing, or a penchant for odd sexual proclivities, there’s a human constant in wanting to connect. There’s a sense of isolation in feeling so different that you think you can’t. There’s something psychologically primal about revealing insecurities, secrets, and confessions in the public forum of Craigslist, anonymously hiding in plain sight. Grade B+.

Hungry Monkey #2 Vegan Donut Cookbook

74 pages, B&W with 2 pg. color spread, $8 bucks

This zine is a cookbook featuring 37 delicious vegan donuts written by vegan bloggers. Also includes a couple pages on the history of donuts. Includes recipes like veganized cronuts, apple fritters, maple "bacon" bars, and vegan fried coke (and of course many many more). Since this is a charity zine, all proceeds are being donated directly to 8 rescued research monkeys who live at Mindy's Memory Primate Sanctuary.

I'm up for trading with fellow zinesters who have a cookzine of their own. :) email me at adrianagiancarla@gmail.com

Too Old to be Angsty -- My first ever zine.  It's a perzine about high school stories & thoughts.  Touches on depression, feminism, identity, music, privilege, & more.  Quarter sized, 30 pages.  Message me if you'd like to trade.

Trades are welcome!

This is my first ever zine!

It's about 25 full-sized, black and white pages.

This is a zine about my eating disorder recovery. It focuses mostly on my group-based treatment in 2009-2010. It consists mostly of information handouts given to me by therapists and dieticians in the program, as well as some collage.

There are some very brief mentions of weight, but nothing in the double digits. No calorie counts.   The major emphasis is nutrition and cognitive behavioral skills and exercises.

I do not profit from the sale of this zine. I charge for the cost of printing and shipping.

Time IV is out before III. IV documents my time volunteering as a sorter at a zine library in the early 2000s, the reason (a person) why I wrote a zine in 2001 and haven’t written one until this year, etc. 28 pages, 8¼ × 11½”, /13.
E-mail, message, or tumblr for a copy. Thanks! A.

PILTDOWNLAD #8.5 - The Cult of Teddy Ruxpin

“The Cult of Teddy Ruxpin” is the story of how I lost religion, discovered punk and made true friends after moving to a small town in Alabama. It is a story of teenage rebellion, resisting high school conformity and subverting the dominant paradigm. It’s about how a seed was planted in fertile soil, a seed that continues to mature to this day.

40 pages . typewritten text . quarter size

Trade or $2 on etsy

ALSO, I apologize if I've promised anyone a trade and didn't send one. Please let me know! I am horribly unorganized, so I may have missed you in my last mailout. I try to keep track of this stuff, but the ole noggin ain't what it used to be...
