We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Hi! We're starting to plan fundraisers for the Chicago Zine Fest and we're going to have an outdoor movie night. We're trying to think of fun suggestions for a movie to show and I was thinking it might be fun to show a movie that was slightly zine-related. Any ideas?

Ghost World :)
I don't think they mention zines, but the movie SLC PUNK has kind of a ziney aesthetic. And Harvey Pekar self published his own comics for a while (until he got a publisher) so maybe AMERICAN SPLENDOR.
check out this thread, there might be some in there: http://wemakezines.ning.com/forum/topics/zines-in-fiction
in ghost world, the only thing close to zines, was when the "77punkrock" enid walks into the zine distro with becca. or was it a regular comic bookstore?
=-]

What about the $100 And A T-Shirt documentary on the Portland zine scene?
The horror film Love Object has a character that created zines when she was younger. I doubt the film would suit your needs though.
Itty Bitty Titty Comittee is about the riot grrrl scene and DIY queer culture, Im sure theres some zines in there somewhere!
There was an independent film about about ten years ago called GODASS directed by Esther Bell that was very, very zine-centric. The lead character published a punk zine and interviewed bands for it. I reviewed it for a film magazine in 2000. I don't know if it's on video, but maybe if you approach the director she will let you screen it, especially for a zine fest fundraiser.

GODASS The Movie
From 2000-2002 there was TV show from Canada called "Our Hero" that was all about a girl who wrote a zine - each episode was about an issue of her zine. I really liked it when it was on, you can get it on DVD now...http://www.ourhero.tv/
