We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Hi guys :) I want to put together a photo zine and was wondering if anyone here has done this, and what tips you might have?

I tried it once before and used all the ink up on my printer, haha, oops.

i'm thinking of doing the same!
i have a lot of time on my hands the next few weeks so i think i shall.

how about photocopying the photos?
Thanks Louise, I'll definitely check them out and suss out their techniques :)
Nicola, I mean to say that you should definitely do one! I wasn't considering photocopying because I want colour, but I'm not sure what colour options there are?

Joseph, as I wrote to Nicola - I'm interested in doing a colour one, I should have mentioned that but then, I'm not sure if there's colour photocopying options available?
Ah, good to know. Yeah, I'm thinking of just doing it on my printer, but cutting down on how many images I have so it's more affordable. Thanks for your thoughts!
I would suggest that you don't use your at-home ink jet to print them, because the cost for the quality just won't be worth it. Look around for places that will do laser printing for you, if you shop around you might be able to find a fairly reasonable price (I pay 20p per A4 sheet when I do mine)
Vicky, thanks for the thoughts. I do believe you're right - I'm going to hunt down laser printing/ colour copying for sure.

Amber! I just received a copy of your CS 18 in the mail today (from Take Care distro here in Aust.) I'll have a look through it soon :D Thanks for sharing your process, that was super helpful.

I don't actually make my zines on my computer, I cut and paste and use the scanner part to colour copy them. But yeah, it's proving to be hella expensive. I just can't do it that way because I don't want to charge people for the expense, and it's way too much cost to run at a loss.

I've also ordered those two zines you recommended, on etsy (yesterday actually!) I was checking out Eleanor's website, I love her work. Thanks for all the help. Now to hunt down a reasonable priced copy shop.

Really appreciate the help guys.
