We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

So today, the IZM officially starts and I guess this is where people can post what is going on around the globe during the IZM...

As for me, the beggining of July promises itself to be a very stressful and busy week (tests, papers, finals, lab reports, identifying bacteria :O etc.)so I'll have to wair until this summer session before i can actually start enjoying IZM... so not fair.

so how are you celebrating? what projects have you done/finished/been sharing around so far?

#1 Made "Ask Me About Zines" shirt. Wore it out twice. Now I need to wash it so I can wear it again.

#2 Have been handing out copies of Entry Point.

#3 Planning to make a 24 Hour zine July 10/11

#4 Will write a few more reviews for Zine World (but I would have done that anyway).

#5 Will mention International Zine Month at the Adult Themes reading on July 25.
Here in Scotland I've just finished the very first zine I've made this century: a new micro-edition of dumb/SULK trigg-er (the zine I used to do in the '90s). It's a bright orange cut 'n' paste affair with a whole page of 'La La Theory' creator Katie Haegele (from PA); archive interviews w/ ex-pornstar Traci Lords and cult Belgian band dEUS; 2 sonnets by me and a little nugget of Zen torn from a teeny book I found in a charity shop.

The new 'zine was mostly prompted by my Mac going into a coma last year and me thinking: "Well, at least paper, scissors and glue don't f***** crash when you least expect it!"

My Mac has thankfully been roused back into life by smelling salts, good mojo and a pal with a box of screwdrivers. But it feels good to have sent out the very first copies of the zine to Katie H (and a few select others) on the very day that the inaugural IZM kicks in...
I know that Jerianne who is the main force behind Zine World is really busy. She has a partner, a kid, and if I remember correctly is in school. I know we're all busy, but don't get discouraged if it takes her a while to get back to you. In my experience, she is often slow to respond. There's also the possibility that if you contacted her via email, that it never got to her. You might want to make another polite inquiry.

1. I have been wishing everyone a very happy international zine month and thought about making cards to send out for it.

2. handed my housemate some scissors when he was wandering around looking for some to make one of those cool fold up 1 page zines.

3. wrote long over due letters to zine penpals.

4. Made these two buttons for 20 cents each in my Etsy shop Up for Trades design by Emma Jane Falconer and Ask me About Zines.

5. planning a 24 hour beer zine. more on that later

6. Planing the Portland Zine Symposium! (tables are almost full! We need volunteers! We still need some more workshop leaders!

7. Now I'm off to update the International Zine Month blog.
we really should have an IZM logo, to make buttons, cards, etc... something to remember the very first year of celebrating IZM by.

The other thing I've been doing to celebrate IZM is sending out as a bonus a copy of Entry Point with all the zine packets I mailed at the end of June and so far in July. I'll keep doing that as long as I have copies available. So now is a great time to buy or trade for my zines.
I jsut got my flat of this the other day and I'm totally going to be putting them in my orders and putting some at reading frenzy and also have them at the Zine Symposium.
