We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Hey guys! I'm new to the zine-making scene, and I was wondering if there were any zine distros out there that were just strictly dedicated to subjects about historical figures and places, (both local history and/or general world history).

I'm interested in beginning a series of zines about local historical figures in my city, and would love to read others for inspiration!

That would be neat if there was a distro that focused on history. I don't know of one. Here in Portland we have a series of Portland history zines being made by The Dill Pickle Club

I made a zine about the history of Postcards

I know of some history based zines (Simple History is the best, one of the best zines out right now) but not any distros.

Try zine libraries. The last 30 years of zine culture is pretty rich. Old issues of Factsheet Five could be used as a directory, with the reviews illuminating various zines' contents. One zine that uses researched history is Murder Can Be Fun which was made by a libarian--I think. But right under our nose is the plethora of personal/ first person zines. They act as folk lore, a people's history of sorts.

Zine libraries: NY-ABC NO RIO, Wisconsin- some College had a special zine collection also Madison Info Shop, Utah-SLC Main Public Library, Portland-IPRC, San Francisco SF public Library, SF- Gutteblud(retail antique zine store), Berkley- The Long Haul Info Shop, Oakland Rock Paper Scissors, Colorada (I think the Denver Main Library), FlagStaff, AZ.- Taala Info shop,New Orleans-Iron Rail, Gainsville, FL-Wayward Council,  and Chicago Quimbys(retail store)

Good Luck

I don't know of any distros that just carry historical zines. But there's a really great zine called "100 Years of Modern Iran" that I really liked. You can get it here http://www.microcosmdistribution.com/catalog/zines/3084/

The SCA has newsletters in the form of zines across much of this country.  It's all medieval stuff though, nothing US oriented.
