a place for zinesters - writers and readers
Okay... I have a love for Flappers, their great fashion, and the over all amazing things they did for women every where - if it were not for Flappers it would not be acceptable for women to wear make-up in public!
I was thinking of devoting a section of my next zine to the history of Flappers and all of the amazingness that surrounds them. They were sexy, fashionable, flirty, hip, and definately pushed beyond the limits of their time.
Would anyone be interested in reading such a piece?

Permalink Reply by Vicky Stevenson on April 5, 2010 at 5:21pm It's an interesting subject, however, I don't think that being able to wear make-up in public is all that great, because now it's expected (either by society, employers, or both) of women to waste money on that crap. Nothing like having to slap layers of toxic chemicals on one's face in order to be considered desirable and employable.

Permalink Reply by Matthew Mu on April 7, 2010 at 5:33am It would be nice, if it were truly a choice, is what I'm saying. It's gone from being taboo in public, to being a choice, to being more or less required, unless you're lucky enough to find people and employment who will accept you as you are. And yes, I've actually been turned down by people in real life because of my lack of make-up. It never ceases to amaze me what nasty things people will say to your face....so forgive me if I don't think that this "sexy, flirty, and fashionable" crap is such a wonderful thing. They certainly weren't doing me any favors.
