CHEAP PRINTING

just got back from UPS mail-boxes
37 zines(all both sides)...6 (11X17). and 21 (8.5x11)
and 10 (4.25x8.5). a good purchase. be sure to go
on discount days...UPS/mailboxes is 5% off on b&w
on FRI (in my town); 8.5x11 color is always 29 cts.
what is going on in your town...re print costs?

yes, a good printer at home will do...but you know the
ODD sizes
SHAPES...and clipart & other artwork that is in my zines
...so i have to start w/ the easy
SELF-SERVICE!!!

I just use my computer printer then refill the ink cartridges when they run out, I'd be interested in how other people print their zines - I still don't know what a "Xerox" actually is.

oh, forgot the price for 37 zines...$5.03 +
42 cts. sales tax...= 5.45! About 15 cts./zine!

that is so cheap.. i use the local library because it is a 5 minute walk from home.. i just printed 20 zines, cost me $16.. kinda pricey.. of course that only makes them 80 cents a zine, but all at once is expensive.. i just checked Staples online, they are 7cents a side, 49cents for colour.. i might go there for the next zine.

oh yes twilight...

all my zines are 8pp. 'cause i fold whatever sheet [11x17]{8.5x13}
8.5x11 or half that...4.25x5.5...so always 8 pp.
and i stop at probably 15 copies....i do 'em 5 at a time

also paper...per ream is cheapest at wal-mart...even cheaper than
staples or office depot...or cost-co

when i do the 'normal' size zine that many consider 'normal...8.5x11 folded
in half...i always stop at 5 sheets of paper...'cause that's 20 pages or...as i
like to think...20 'sides'...; but even there...i still print only 5 at a time
because i take the bus to town twice weekly.

sooooooooo...to sum up...it's $500.00 bucks/year no matter what i do...
but i don't consider that a HIGH price for a 'hobby'...and i don't 'bowl'
or drink or play poker...hahahaha, so i figure i have the $500.00 to spend.

um...send me your addy...and i will send a sample type of each of
mine...regular...mini...and 'wee' (that's where i use less than an
8.5x11 sheet...:):)

happy to trade.................we can often show each other how to save
$$$...:)...but postage is ALWAYS more COSTLY than the zine itself...and

i usually print 10 copies at a time, but then i run out, and i'm always trying to be a little sneaky at the library, because every time i open the tray up to put the copies back in, the library staff ears perk up, like i'm doing something funky.. not just 'that maybe she knows what she's doing'.. lol, so i thought, do 20 and see how that goes..

and i agree with you about it being the only little vice i have that costs money.. i too don't have vices that currently cost me money, like those that smoke, drink [much], gamble, drugs etc.. AND, every little bit of money i find or am given as a tip at work [which averages a few bucks a week] i put in a jar and it's just for zines..

Booo, there is nothing DIY about supporting corporate copy shops. Plus they are almost always more expensive than the indie alternatives.

I start a discussion about this few months ago.

anyways, I found a way to pay only 2c (in euro) per side, but it's only if you pay for a 5 thousands copy card ! (it's not a big deal since we also use it to print some flyers and posters for the few shows we promote.)

that would be
1.5x2eu=3cents/side...pretty cheap!

but i always try to fold whichever size paper twice....
11x17....8.5x11 etcetera...and always print on both
sides............

so, all-in-all...an 8-page/'8-sided' zine for 15 cents is
pretty cheap....especially if one uses the
ariel 10point FONT.............it is sans serif...
and so the CLEAREST in small print...:):)

REGARDLESS...postage is the most expenside item in
ZINERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I 'make' a lot of my envelopes ...ergo: FREE)

um flyers...i don't do concerts/gatherings
etcetera...and so don't need

I'm lucky- theres a mom and pop shop just a few miles away from me that's just 5 cents a sheet (at least I think it still is.) In the future, I'm going to see if I can get a job at Kinkos. (They just hit nine cents a sheet)
