Calling all liars

I'm working on a zine about lies- working title "Burning Pants" after the 'pants on fire' line, and I'm looking for stories about

Lies gone out of control
Why you lie
Being on the recieving end of a lie
Or maybe on the values/complications of honesty.

I don't have a deadline on this yet, but I do want to print it over christmas break. Everyone who submits something gets a free copy.

I like to think I tell the truth often enough that I can't keep track... What means 'times I told the truth' for you? Because if my mom says 'did you catch the bus today' and I say 'yes,' does that count? Or is it telling the truth when you have preferred to lie?>

OK. Kind of confused there. I get it now. A mini zine. lol.

Yeah. I feel that way on Christmas, where I get things from distant relatives that are so not me but i have to smile and say I love it. Most lies are just to be polite. If everyone went around telling what they thought the world would be a very complicated place.

It was my Aunt who never sees me and thought that I would like a coach purse. Everyone I know wants a coach purse. Except for me. It wasn't that interesting. I jsut said something like 'thanks its really pretty.'

I do know people that got coloring books until they were around ten. I might try and get them to write something.

That's hallarious. You should totally write a paragraph about that.

THat would be a really funny zine topic, auctually. The weirdest christmas presents people have ever gotten. Lol. Someone I've never met- mom's aunt, I think- once gave me a pink frilly purse. She wasn't there when I opened it, though, so that was good.

last year, my uncle and aunt gave me a makeup kit. like, one of those things with sparkly lipgloss and pink nailpolish and crap you'd give to a girly thirteen year old.

... anyone that's met me ONCE knows that isn't me. and these people have known me for nineteen years.
I made my face up like a cat. they seemed confused.

also, I got barbie dolls till I was like... geez, sixteen, maybe? I didn't even like barbies when I was little, I used to chew their feet off.

I was just reading about something called the "radical hoensty movement." Basically if you get an ugly sweater for Xmas you say "This is an ugly fucking sweater and if you knew anything about me at all you would know this is the type of thing I would never wear. Not only that, it's too fucking small. If you don't care enough about me to get me something that at least fits you shouldn't waste your time and money." Supposedly this is liberating and once you get going it really cuts through a lot of the bullshit in your everyday life. The guy who started the movement says that he will lie to the government and no one else. I can support that, but overall I think it's better in theory than it is in practice.
