ZINE SUBMISSIONS TO SELL IN INDEPENDENT RECORD STORE

Siren Records - AN INDEPENDENT RECORD STORE SINCE 1988

I haven't posted on here in a while but a lot of cool zine-wise/music-wise stuff has been going on in my life. I've done a few punk rock flea markets recently and just picked up a job at my hometown's record store Siren Records in Doylestown, PA- a train ride away from Philly.

In the past they've had a section for zines on consignment but it has since dwindled and I'd like to renew our showcase for DIY and zines by sending out this announcement and redesigning our set up for zine displays in the shop.

We're interested in all types of zines- especially, music-related, political, cooking, poetry, art etc. I'll be selling my zine series Staircase Wit there too! If you'd be interested in the spirit of DIY & supporting independent record stores (while promoting yer own stuff!) contact me @ staircasewitzine@gmail.com. Please include what's your zine about and pictures of the pages inside would be helpful too!

From there on, I'll give you more info & the next steps in this process.
For the love of DIY-
Laura Lane.

PUNK ROCK WEBZINE/ZINE LOOKING FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

Keep Track of the Time is a webzine focused on all things punk rock. This has so far mainly involved reviews, interviews and a track by track analysis of classic albums. However, I am looking for variety, so anything loosely connected with punk rock (or even possibly not); it could be whatever you like...as well as interviews, reviews (of albums, gigs), it could be art of some sort, or whatever you like. I will consider all. We are a webzine, but I will be doing soon a one-off print zine and seeing where it goes from there.

Take a look at the website here: http://keeptrackofthetime.wordpress.com/

If you want to contribute something, email me here: keeptrackofthetime@gmail.com

SATIRE ZINE SEEKS DUMB/FUNNY REVIEWS

The internet is full of insipidly stupid reviews--and we want to publish them on paper!

We NEED:

  • obnoxious Yelp reviews
  • funny Amazon reviews
  • reviews from vacation sites, popular monuments, tourist destinations
  • reviews you were paid (or paid someone) to write
  • reviews of cemeteries, Rainforest Cafe, the Skokie Holocaust Museum, Elgin's McDonalds!

ANY FOUND REVIEW THAT IS STUPID, FUNNY OR GOOD-2-LAFF @!

You could also write me a legitimately thoughtful review using the skill of actual good writing on one of the following topics:

  • a grade school teacher you hated
  • an esoteric video game (Tomba 2, Ren & Stimpy for Game Gear, etc.)
  • a book originally written in Japan
  • a specific Halloween
  • a pet you didn't own
  • a particular public restroom
  • a non-sexually explicit review of pornography
  • AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT'S FUNNY/ANTI-CAPITALIST/PUNK/LOL/ETC.

All contributors, whether their content written or stolen, will get a MECHANICAL YAMMERING super-fan prize pack! Including: a copy of the zine, some more zines, a cool button, a signed sketch from the magazine's editor and maybe some other crap!

Past contributors include: an Onion writer, weird Twitter gurus, a free-jazz drummer, a bunch of teens and my girlfriend.

Do contributors ever get money? No! Definitely not! If you email me about this, I will mock you and include your emails in future zines. We've yet to find a way to monetize folded, xerox paper books made at Office Depot and sold on consignment at aberrant bookstores. Of course, this is not through lack of trying. We strive to optimize and give a high ROI to our beneficiaries (i.e. the editor's dad).

Our company is a very good company that makes absolutely no money. In this way, MECHANICAL YAMMERING is much like Amazon.com.
