Lost in Space:

I am not going to name names, but I spent some good time creating a four page comic for a submission to a newly forming zine.

I emailed in my work and had yet to hear back weeks/months later. Not even a thanks we got it.This experience has turned me off from submitting work to other peoples zines.

I have no clue if they got, or if the zine will even come out.

It is not a total loss. I figure I can use it for my own zine, but it was really made for the specific zine for their theme.

Has anyone else run into this?

I've submitted one-page drawings to a few zines, with good results.

B, the experience you describe is bummer, though, and would turn me off of submitting as well.  Especially long, time-consuming work, so I hope you do publish it yourself!

Thrice Fiction http://thricefiction.com has just published its 5th issue, featuring Marcus Speh, Misti Rainwater-Lites, a feature on micro fiction and the usual bunch of miscreants.

What we are about is simple; we bring the new and unusual as well as the traditional but well-written work from many different modes into one place. That's why you will see everything from flash fiction to standard short stories to things hard to categorize.

Our pages have featured first-time published writers as well as *old school* altzine people such as the infamous John M Bennett of Lost and Found Times fame.

Our submissions policy is open to all and everyone. Nothing is too odd - so long as it has voice and a soul, and nothing is too traditional - so long as it is well-crafted and true.

Issue #4 from this spring enjoyed over 5,000 independent downloads. We're not in the same boat as many of the fantastic zinesters who put out their press shop journals and keep the idea of *true* zines alive because we are mostly free download online & as-you-order hard copies from MagCloud, but we have great artwork (if you're an artist, consider us as well) and love to bring the unheralded geniuses of the literary alt-world into the light, where they should be seen and read.

I publish a yearly journal of queer possibility, The Alchemical Postmodern Theorist. You can see past issues here.

This year's issue will come out in early Fall. There is no specific topic, but past issues have addressed the commodification of queer culture; intersections of race, HIV and gay marriage campaigns; chosen queer family; transman porn; cultural appropriation; spiritual dimensions of transgender, anti-capitalism and anti-civ perspectives; spirituality; trans families and more.

I'm looking for photography, art, poetry, essays, academic-y pieces, rants, and collages. I'll be happy to trade submissions if I can find something for your zine.

Aberration Labyrinth, a budding online magazine, is looking for submissions for their upcoming issues as well as their first Halloween contest. This is not your ordinary Poetry Journal. If you write about nature, sunsets, religion or sailboats, we do not want your work. Instead, the zine publishes nerdy, horror, and trash poetry. (If you're not sure your work will fit, please read some of our publications before submitting).

Request for Video clips!

We are putting together a new promotional clip for OBSOLETE! Magazine and I need your help! Please send us a video clip  riffing on the classic Twilight Zone episode "The Obsolete Man"- it can be as simple as a shot of you or your friends saying "YOU ARE OBSOLETE!"using your phone, tablet or computer. OR- feel free to get as creative or elaborate as you want. Don't worry, though, don't be shy- we need LOTS OF CLIPS! The more the better- quality is not an issue. We will collage you all together into a fantabulous obsolete montage.

The F-Bomb is looking for content for their next issue, due out in January!

The next issue is going to be unthemed so we can warm up a little from the last one. Also, this is a great time to discuss possible columns you may want to write for each issue. Got something that you can write about every issue? Bring it to my attention. Music reviews? How-to's? Something informative? Lay it on the table here or, if you're shy, message me privately about it and we'll talk.

So, this is our third unthemed issue and I'd like to see fucking fireworks on this one. Let's push the envelope, write about something scandalous, something amazing, something GOOD. I want us to come out with a bang, so bring your best stuff! I have faith in you guys. Every single one of you. I know what you're capable of!

I am not a stickler for content. I feel like since this is independent publishing we should be able to write whatever we want. I DO have a few rules, though.

No racism
No sexism
No fictionalized rape scenarios

You would think this would be a given but you should see some of the stuff I get!

Okay, so those are the guidelines. I usually work with a 1,000-1,500 word limit per contributor or 2 pages for art/comics/photography. I'd like to bump that up to 2,000 for words and 3 for art/comics/photography. You're welcome!

Deadline is November 15th!

does anyone like that band the cocteau twins?

no gods no mattress 19 is going to be half a fanzine about the cocteau twins [the other half will be about living in the east sf bay.]  this is my personal zine for which i usually do not accept submissions.  however, for this issue i am looking specifically for peoples' interpretation of elizabeth fraser's lyrics, especially the least decipherable of them. [or the ones that include the least actual words.]

some suggestions:

-choose a song that you've got no idea about the words to.. maybe you sing a few lines when it's on but you have no idea about the others.  listen to it a minimum amount of times while writing down what you think you hear. 

-please, please, please don't look at lyric websites for others' interpretations.

Call for Submissions- SciFi/DIY Issue!

OBSOLETE! Magazine is seeking high quality writing and artwork for the upcoming issue. The theme of OBSOLETE #7 is SciFi/DIY, and will explore the interconnection between science fiction and the rise of DIY culture.
Short fiction, essays, poetry, illustrations, comics and photography will all be considered. You may submit completed work or pitch a story idea. Some story ideas might include: The history of zines and/or fan fiction, the influence of scifi on technology, the rise of “Cons”, “Citizen Science”, Geek and “Maker “Culture.
The deadline for submissions is November 30th. OBSOLETE! offers token payment for original content but we also consider previously published material or excerpts from upcoming books. OBSOLETE! is published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 license.
