Nominate your Zine Scene heros!

So who on your scene is a real Zine Hero? Someone that contributes above and beyond, is always helpful, a trailblazer or just unspeakably cool?

Claiming England as a scene, I've got to say FootPrinters are scene heroes. They print zines and a few other bits and bobs, before I found them the cheapest quote I got for Beat Motel was over £1000, I think they did it for about £250! Plus they are a workers co-op, so all cool and groovy in that respect too!

My friend Lori! She does a zine called 'Tightrope Laboratory' and it is very interesting and strange. She does alot of artsd and crafts that I enjoy also-like magnets and cool lighters! I'm gonna try'n get her to join this community! Plus she has supported me cuz we are the only 2 zinesters in our scene!

Italian mail art guru Vittore Baroni, hands down. I actually should call him "ail art hero" because it was him who introduced me to mail art in the late 90s, but he happens to make an English-language zine called Arte Postale! He has been putting out AP! since 1977 and has almost reached 100 issues. He likes to play with formats. Every time the zine is a different size and design.

Zine Scene heroes... Well, I´ve only been making zines for 5 years (& independent publishing goes back, way back, to the 1850s) but I´m going to have to say that the first two names that come to my mind as being heroes of the current zine scene are:

A) Jerianne: the main mover & shaker behind "Zine World: A Reader´s Guide to the Underground Press" as well as a few side projects (like "Worry Stone" #1 which I just got my greedy little hands on) and...

B) Davida: the main mover & shaker behind "Xerography Debt: The Review Zine With Perzine Tendencies" as well as a few side projects.

I myself just recently finished putting together my first contributor-driven zine project. It was hell. Getting people to follow deadlines & send stuff on-topic... Good lord. I don´t know how these two women do it year in & year out. And without any financial gain whatsoever. I raise up high my glass of cheap bourbon to both of you! Buen trabajo!

Holy shit. These folks requested some zines from me months ago and I never got around to sending them any. They never paid me anything so it's not like I screwed 'em over or anything, but now that I remember I feel pretty stupid.

As for my zine hero- I nominate myself- Eric Lyden of the zine Fish with Legs. Because if you're not your own hero then what fucking good are you?

my own would be amber and maranda farthing. zinester feminist twins? uh, the coolest. amazing zines from both and i love how i have some older issues of each of their zines and i can see how they have started to become different in their zine approach. its great.

I third the nomination LB, Sage and Ciara- they run my favorite distros and they all have really cool zines - overall, awesome kids!

As for my own...I really enjoy what Sinoun does! She has breathtaking zines and came up with thetradingnetwork.org woohoo!

Bri Zine and Sarah Arr! make some sweet tasty zines. <3
