SUMMARY:\"Rad Dad: the Anthology\" 2011 Zine Tour Visit
DESCRIPTION:Tomas Moniz, founder and editor of the award-winning zine 
 Rad Dad and the new anthology, Rad Dad: Dispatches from the Frontiers 
 of Fatherhood, will read at the Olympia Timberland Library on Wednesda
 y, August 3 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Local zinesters and artists Sky Cosby,
  Nikki McClure and Joshua James Amberson will also share their work. Z
 ines and books will be sold at the event.\nThe anthology combines the 
 best pieces from Rad Dad and the blog Daddy Dialectic (by Jeremy Adam 
 Smith), publications that explore parenting as political territory and
  provide space for parents (and in particular fathers) to share, commi
 serate, plan, and support each other in challenging patriarchy one dia
 per at a time.\nMoniz is helping raise three children and has been mak
 ing zines since the late 1990s. His writing has been included in many 
 zines about parenting as well as in the books My Mother Wears Combat B
 oots and Don’t Leave Your Friends Behind. He teaches basic skills cl
 asses at Berkeley City College and works with the National Writing Pro
 ject.\nSky Cosby is co-owner and founder of Last Word Books in Olympia
  and founder of Last Earth Distro. He writes the blog Pirate Papa: A J
 ournal of Anarcho-Green Do-It-Yourself Parenting. Cosby enjoys spendin
 g time with his daughters and partner, exploring the woods, honing pri
 mitive living skills, writing, printing and providing access to counte
 r-culture literature.\nOlympia’s Nikki McClure is known for her intr
 icate and beautiful images cut from a single sheet of paper. Her work 
 depicts parenthood, nature, community, hard work and patience as well 
 as large helpings of sustenance, appreciation and celebration. McClure
  is a self-taught artist who has been making paper-cuts since 1996. Sh
 e produces her own posters, books, cards, t-shirts and a yearly calend
 ar and designs covers for records and books, including the Rad Dad ant
 hology.\nJoshua Amberson is the creator and proprietor for Ms. Valerie
  Park Distro, “a small distributor of independently-created things.
  He works at local bookstore Orca Books and is in several bands incl
